One problem with 1940 American isolationists is that they were not only laughably stupid, many were also pro-fascist, pro-Nazi and/or anti-Semitic.
They were bad dudes doing "good work" for their true loyalties, which were not America.
Just like today's pro-Russians.

Being against a war isn’t isolationist.
It is rational.
We have no reason to participate or spill the blood of our soldiers.
We still participate in trade, culture, education, diplomacy, etc.
