Apparently, she was drunk and using an advanced cruise control that handles steering. However, it took the car off the interstate where it killed 2 men on the shoulder. Her lawyer implied the defense will be it was caused by the automated system. Perp and victims all appear to be foreigners.

Thank the Lord that they have started creating personal firearms with “hands-free systems.” The “lawyers” would have a field day.

You know it’s 2024 when you read an article about a vehicular homicide case on I-95 in Philadelphia, and the only American involved is the Ford vehicle.

But I saw in the commercials that you can raise your hands, clap and sing songs while the vehicle drives itself. Why not have a few pops along the way?

Okay so it took the criminal defense attorney six months to figure out how they were going to rope in the deep-pocket on this thing before giving the perp the go-ahead to turn herself in to the cops. Did anyone bother to ask her what took her so long?

Dimple Patel and Kyung Kim

RRA Capital, a leading investment firm specializing in CRE bridge loans, announced today that it has welcomed two new executive team members, Dimple Patel as General Counsel and Kyung Kim as Managing Director of Originations.

A promising career cut short and two lives ended.

Yep, a lawyer’s dream case: “the car’s autocruise wasn’t drunk, just inept- didn’t matter if she was drunk or not as the car was “in control”, doing the driving. The whole point of autocruise or autodrive is for the car to handle the driving. If the system isnt capable, then what is it doing instzlled in vehicles already? My client was under the impression that she bought a car that was capable of self driving, which means that it will obey all laws, and keep from colliding with other cars or people or objects.”

Or some such argument (likely far more sophisticated than my feeble attempt to describe a possible argument)

[[”While the advancements in technology are immense, always strive to maintain proper control of your vehicle.”]]

not really knowing how self driving systems work, maybe She could claim that when the car veered, she tried to correct the car, but the selfdrive system wouldn’t let her take control, or full control, and the accident resulted. how cluld thye prove otherwise? should could claim she got control but the system kept taking over

But then the prosecution could argue that she was drunk and could not properly regain control and deserves to be charged with homicide or some charge.

Wonder how it’s gonna be argued? Interesting problem faced by the “auto-driving systems”

Killed while under the influence — hang her. She deliberately got drunk and then committed a crime. The crime (DUI) and deaths were intentional.

HANG HER.

"“No partially automated vehicle technology should
ever be left alone to perform the driving tasks..""

A good argument for banishing autonomous vehicles
to the historical dust bin.

After WWII the United States owned the private aircraft market. What killed it and ended a dozen companies and thousands of highly paid jobs was liability. The courts found that the manufacturer was responsible for every feature working regardless of age or maintenance.

Based on the history, it’s amazing a car company would even attempt to create self-driving cars. This is a feature I expect to vanish because of lawyers.
