Thank God I went to a small liberal arts college back when people still believed in rigorous open debate and critical thinking. All freshmen were required to take a Colloquy class, encouraging open discussion and expression.

I had a philosophy prof that was as liberal as could be. He had been a Jesuit missionary in central America during the heyday of the 70's liberation theology movement before leaving rhe priesthood. I was in ROTC and would be in uniform in his class on Thursdays. He and I often fought like two crocodiles over a wildebeest carcass...and in the end, I still got an A in his class.

I don't see that happening today.
