Gloria Romero, former Democratic majority leader in the California state Senate, has announced that she is switching to the Republican party and will be voting for former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
Speaking on Fox News, Romero said that the Democratic Party "has moved so far to the left, it's been the party that marched towards war, towards censorship, towards authoritarianism."
Romero served in office from 1998 to 2010, initially as a member of the California State Assembly for the 49th district, then as a member of the California State Senate for the 24th district, and between 2005 and 2008, she served as majority lead of the California state senate.
In the 2021 California gubernatorial recall election, she endorsed the Republican Larry Elder as a replacement candidate for Democratic governor Gavin Newsom. Romero made her announcement at the State Capitol, alongside Rep. Keven Kiley, California GOP Chair Jessica Millan Patterson and Assembly Minority Leader James Gallagher.
"My biggest disconnect with my old party now has been over school choice, education freedom and the right to have quality schools for all," Romero said. "Especially as Congressman Kevin Kiley and I have fought together, especially for school choice, for poor and minority children who are trapped in chronically failing schools," as per KRCA3.

Welcome to the party darling.
Romero has always been more of a moderate Dem. She did endorse Larry Elder for governor in 2021.
She and I went to Long Beach State at the same time although with 30000 students I wouldn’t have known her.
Sometimes the regrowth and regeneration takes years, but all the more permanently it sets deep roots.
Some grow in wisdom, and become relevant, but others just grow - old.
“the party that marched towards war, towards censorship, towards authoritarianism.”
We are witnessing in real time major electoral shifts taking place. The Democrats have embraced our old neo-cons and globalists, while we are welcoming anti-establishment, anti-war, pro-free speech/free thinking Democrats (and Independents) into our party.
It’s increasingly becoming obvious that the real fight is between the system with its media spokesmen and its political arm, the Democrat Party and the populists standing up against the system and the establishment that helps sustain it. The system wants forever wars, open borders, and the silencing of dissent and the managing of speech. The new populist Republicans want peace through strength, secure borders, and free and open debate where dissent is encouraged. In some ways, this is the more important fight at the moment than the old conservative/liberal divide.
Just leave any Rat ideas at your old desk please.
The only real issue is that she is a former politician instead of active so theres not so much weight to it unless she has the gift of persuasion and can convince some of her fomer colleagues who are still serving in office to switch parties.
Its a little frustrating when they only flip after their influence and power is gone.
We could really use a nice block of 20 or 30 active elected democrat statesman to do a mutiny and flip parties before the election
YEah, a day late and a dollar short. But whatever.
Nice cogent thoughts.
