New details have been released amid the investigation into an attempted kidnapping that happened Monday in the parking lot of a Walmart in Orlando.

Juan Perez was arrested and charged with armed robbery with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, battery, and attempted kidnapping with intent to inflict harm after the incident that unfolded at the Walmart on South Goldenrod Road on Monday afternoon, according to the Orlando Police Department.

The 54-year-old man was caught on surveillance footage pacing around the parking lot before approaching the victim, police said. Perez allegedly demanded the woman's purse at knifepoint before forcing her into the trunk of her own car.

"If you keep this up, I'll slice your throat," Perez allegedly told the victim as he kept trying to take her purse, according to an arrest affidavit.

A bystander intervened and the woman was able to run away from the scene.

Forget the anklet, cut off the ankles.

From the article: “Police said at the time of Perez’s arrest that he was on federal probation for a previous kidnapping charge.”

I can see getting probation for your first petty offense, like stealing a candy bar. But now kidnapping gets you probation.

In the old days that was a capital offense.

As Bob Dylan noted, the times, they are a-changin’.

I have a solution for this. I’ll state it this time. Make it a law that if you kidnap someone, and the person dies, you die. If they live, your thumbs are cut off and your spinal cord severed at the waist. Whatever family you have has to take care of you. If no family, then you hit the streets in the wheelchair and see how long you live.

The article never said whether he was a U.S. citizen or in the country illegally.

This is a reminder that violent crime can occur anywhere, even in sunny Florida.

The bright spot here is that a woman passing by stopped and did a successful intervention.

Governor DeSantis’ team will know how to deal with this perpetrator. I don't think you will see this guy on the street misbehaving for a long time.

Didn’t kidnapping used to be a capital crime?

The article never said whether he was a U.S. citizen or in the country illegally.

Which itself tells you.
