I played a guy's Dobro one night at a club just to check it out. It was just standard tuned but I loved the sound and feel of it. After playing a couple songs it planted a seed in the back of my head I guess because a couple yrs later I saw a used Gibson Hound-dog resonator on the wall at a Guitar center. I had the guy take it down for me and went in the sound room and played on it for about an hour. I ended up buying it for about $700. When I played it at home for a while it was cool but I ended up putting it down because I have quite a few other axes and basses so I was busy with other stuff.

After a while I realized it was probably best for playing slide on so I taught myself to play slide on it which is cool because it added another dimension to my repertoire. I also prefer to play tuned to E, but there's other tunings that work well too. The beautiful thing about music is you can never stop learning and you can never learn enough.

Great story, thanks for sharing it!

That's God's honest truth right there. Music is one of the Almighty's best voices, and it is our honor and privilege to take part in realizing it in sound. In 60 years of playing, I've learned something new pretty much every time I've picked up an instrument and tried to wring something musical out of it. And as you said, there's always infinitely more to learn.

We are blessed to have this as part of our lives.
