Volkswagen Faces Factory Closures Amid Asian Competition Pressure

Volkswagen is contemplating factory closures in Germany for the first time as it grapples with increasing pressure from cheaper Asian competitors. This development signifies a major conflict between Chief Executive Oliver Blume and influential company unions, which have a history of blocking management decisions.

The company's works council has identified a large vehicle plant and a component factory as obsolete, vowing strong opposition to the executive board's plans. Lower Saxony, Volkswagen's second-largest shareholder, supports a review of potential closures, increasing tensions within the company.

Facing decreased competitiveness, a challenging economic environment, and aggressive Chinese automakers entering Europe, Volkswagen plans to cut costs by 10 billion euros by 2026. The decline in market value, particularly in China, its largest market, highlights the urgency for Volkswagen to innovate or risk further losses.

Got a 98 Passat once, used.
The timing BTW broke and the non reciprocating engine design destroyed itself immediately, rendering it into junk.

Never again.

And an in-dash CD player.

Absolutely no - too many moving parts and a laser that attracts dust.

My car had (2) USB ports to playback digital music files - ripped CDs and HiRez 24-bit downloads...and no moving parts for better sound and reliability

Agreed. And normally aspirated, no computer, no EMP-susceptible electronics, and owner-fixable.

Kind of like a John Deere gator without the $41,000 sticker shock.

No tariffs means the ChiComs take over ALL production. Is that what he west wants?

“BYD, which is completely subsidized by the Chinese govt”

The usual suspects, Warren Buffet and Blackrock own substantial shares, of course no controlling interest. They have no scruples were they make their money.

I think all that screen stuff is used as a cost cutting measure.

They don’t have to make controls for each feature on the car.

Mine has a screen but the heat and AC are manual so if the screen goes out you still have climate control.

But yes the screens aren’t necessary.

Germany is doomed. They are moving chemical production to China as they close plants due to the shut down of nuclear power plants in Germany,
Also, on every board is the company’s works council. These are unions and they control the production by saying when labor is used, and how many hours they will work.

I have personally owned 7 or 8 VW’s over the years. My son and daughter each have had 2, as did my father.

A few years ago, VW decided to phase out the Golf (except for the very overpriced GTI) for the US market, in favor of behemoth SUV’s and electric boondoggle cars.

So, when I needed to replace my last daily driver Golf with a small, fun-to-drive commuting car that I can park on the street in Manhattan, there was no longer an appropriate VW for me to buy!

So, I now drive a Mini with a 6-speed manual transmission, which is about 18 inches shorter than my last Golf. Oh the parking spaces I can fit that car into!

Full disclosure, our “family car” is a 2015 Golf TDI (turbodiesel) Sportwagen with a 6-speed manual - my wife and I intend to keep it until we die, at which point, the kids will fight over it!

I just junked a car with a working in-dash CD player. Never had any trouble with that during that 18 year period, and I bought it used.

I have two USB ports in my current car and have a thumb drive with tunes on it.

When I shop for CDs, I set them on the seat and can’t pop them right in to listen as I drive around.

So, absolutely yes, in-dash CD player.

LOL....

Absolutely NO on in-car CD players and all their moving mechanical parts and being limited to 16-bit quality.

Absolutely YES on USB ports - all solid state, NO moving parts, HIGHER sound quality and ability to play HiRez 24-bit audio files.

Preferring low quality CD 16-bit vs USB 24-bit HiRez files is like an American preferring Kamala Harris vs Donald Trump.

Good luck on your “Kamala” technology.

Ahhhhh, sorry Kamala...but it appears you were triggered and responded by calling me a fascist. LOL...and typical of a low IQ leftist.

As an American capitalist, I prefer the higher quality & dependability of USB and it’s ability to play 24-bit HiRez music files - something 16-bit CDs can NOT do.

Additionally, while you’re opening Cd cases & changing CDs, I have a 2TB USB drive with a LOT more music and it’s MUCH easier to change artists, albums, etc via my entertainment screen.

Kamala, enjoy your horse & buggy technology...and good luck with recovering from your TDS - Trigger Derangement Syndrome.

You leftists are so transparent and low IQ....LOL!
