Any white kid in a majority black school would view this as a relative walk in the park. At least on a professional ball team, she’s getting paid and, unlike in school settings, there are referees. And instant replays, with consequences for the culprits.

In fairness, fouling good players isn’t some novel thing. Happens in soccer, football, basketball, etc. So long as the referee is letting fouls slide, it’s a rational strategy. Unethical, but there’s a reason the word gamesmanship was coined to refer to this type of conduct - it happens a lot during all varieties of games.

No criticism implied. Just pointing out that it’s not that big a deal. She’s maybe the team’s star player, so the opposition will try to knock her out of the game, or at least off her game so they can win this particular outing. She likely sticks out a little more because she’s relatively new, and a ton of publicity has centered on her. Envy probably plays a part. The new kid on the block is always going to get flak, especially given all the established players who think they’re not sufficiently appreciated. The fact that rookie’s getting a ton of endorsement deals is not going to sit well, regardless of color.
