Re Devil’s Tower:
Well, darn. I didn’t know that. Anyone know why you can’t fly a drone over it? What would it hurt?
The National Park Service does not allow drones to be flown from within NPS land.
The feelings of the NPS who have a monopoly on the monument.
Most likely the local Indians got a vote. When we were there, we learned of all sorts of restrictions for their “sacred” land, which included a lot of land surrounding Devil’s Tower.
There were many dates blocked out for which tourists were not allowed to visit. We noticed that every single one of these “sacred” days overlapped with traditional American vacation days and holidays.
The area around the Tower was littered with all sorts of signs warning tourists about respecting this or that area. I remember one thing was tree that had colorful rags ties to it. Just had the feeling that some people are laughing up their sleeves.
The neolithic/base metal tribes that used to control that area got an increased say in its use as it’s considered a holy site.
