The greatest correction in newspaper history.
Charles and Diana should have had a boy named Upton. Then you could call them Up, Chuck, and Di
I’m assuming they published the “Sex Mad” headline upon learning that she had gone to Paris with Dodi, her latest (and to many Brits, objectionable on grounds of his muslim background and parvenu father) partner, just hours before her death was announced.
The royal family gathered that day at Balmoral Castle. My time in Great Britain during the next week was rather somber and unforgettable. Visited York Minster, where massive bouquets of flowers were left by mourning Brits. Diana was absolutely the People's Princess.
Not the whole world.....
“ She was medically confirmed to be a virgin before her marriage.”
Wink wink, nudge nudge. Say no more.
Oh my goodness, what sad timing to be right there. It had to seem almost like being intrusive, but not..
I was at Publix and someone came to the customer service desk and said Princess Diana is dead. No one really believed her, but she’d heard it on the radio (how quaint, news from the radio). The manager had a little TV and he and several customers went to listen- and of course it was true. An older fellow said “she’s too beautiful to die”.
Great description. I moved my departure for home up two days, leaving England before the masses arrived for Diana's funeral.
Princess Di's untimely death is one of those we will always remember where we were when we heard the news.
Wow... very interesting experience! I just saw everything on TV. Would have been fascinating to see all of that in person like you did.
