As safety goes I would opt for an 50’s car over a self driving car any time.
When it comes to car crashes over 50 mph the risks are the same with old or new.
The risks are indeed the same. The difference is that cars are made to absorb energy. It’s called crash energy management. In the old days cars were built like tanks. Hit a tree and you will dent the bumper and go through the windshield. Today the car is destroyed and you may walk away from the accident. But I did love those bench seats.
Incorrect. Modern vehicles are built with force absorbing crumple zones, which significantly reduce impact to people and injury/death.
My youngest son was hit head-on by a drunk driver in a Ford F-150, while my son sat at a stop sign.
The crumple zones and airbags on his 2019 Toyota Corolla SAVED HIS LIFE. He escaped the car with a few bumps and bruises. It's a miracle he's alive.
That would never have happened in a vehicle from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, or 90's.
I have a picture of my youngest son on top of his vehicle after it was towed to the junkyard. It was completely unrecognizable.
Yes, I helped him buy another Toyota Corolla. I drive a Tacoma myself. Toyota fans for life.
Breakaway steering wheels, and properly placed airbags and seat belts, that was all within the purview of consumer choice, instead of regulation. I HATES regulations.
