Russian Conscripts Are Dying in Kursk. How Will the Kremlin Control the Narrative?
National Review ^ | 8/23/2024 | MARK ANTONIO WRIGHT

A notable outcome of Ukraine’s surprise invasion of the Russian province of Kursk — now stretching into its third week — is the Russian army’s reliance on thousands of unprepared, under-equipped, and poorly led conscripts in its attempt to repel the invasion.

It’s often under-appreciated in the West just how unpopular and politically sensitive the draft is in Vladimir Putin’s Russia. The use of conscripts in Afghanistan and Chechnya (and their deaths in their thousands) was a huge part of the unpopularity of those wars inside Russia. In those years, the draft set off protests and a Russian “mothers’ movement” that elicited concessions from the Kremlin.

And one of the big concessions that the Kremlin has made during its “special military operation” in Ukraine is that Russian conscripts — usually drafted for one-year terms — would not be used outside sovereign Russian territory, i.e., they wouldn’t be used in Ukraine. Instead, the war would only be fought by “contract soldiers,” volunteers who have signed on to fight, usually after being offered significant financial incentives from the Russian state, as well as large numbers of former convicts, offered their freedom should they survive the meat grinder.

Fortunately many Russia officers realize the situation and surrender with their teenage conscripts in order to save their own lives, and those of the teenagers.

The people of Kursk are furious at Putin for putting them into a war zone as a result of his attack on Ukraine.

Barrier troops, blocking units, or anti-retreat forces are military units that are located in the rear or on the front line (behind the main forces) to maintain military discipline, prevent the flight of servicemen from the battlefield, capture spies, saboteurs and deserters, and return troops who flee from the battlefield or lag behind their units.

Needed them on the border. Otherwise, it was undefended.

“We never have enough neocon source material being posted here.”

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

“Neocons” have often been associated with armed resistance against tyrants who attacked us, our friends and allies, and our economical interests.
Thus... Roosevelt, Churchill, De Gaulle, were Neocons.
Necons won over the non-neocon and socialist Hitler, and later also won over the non-necon and socialist Soviet-Union. Neo-conservatism got rid of many ultra islamic leaders who caused many american deaths. Trump is a Necon, and I can prove it in my next post if you so wish.

Those who want our enemies to hurt us are evidently not neocons. They are consequently either Islamist, communists, pacifists... but there could be a completely different reason as well :

They may naively be thinking that appeasement of our traditional enemies is the greatest tool for peace.
The king of non-necons once proudly said : “Peace in our time!” (British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain).

We know what that led to...

They died being shot by anti-retreat troops as they tried to run away. Not exactly glorious - Russians murdering Russians.

Ukrainian conscripts, ones rounded up like cattle and forced to the frontlines, are the ones dying.

And, Ukrainian is running out of them and troops, period.
