My Father called Donahue a "bleeding heart liberal." looking back on what I remember of him - he was a 1970s fore-runner of the simp male Karen of our present age, or as much as society of that time allowed such a figure to exist.. But you are correct, he was not hateful or arrogant and conducted civilized debates

Yes, agree wholeheartedly. When my first son was born and I stayed home with him for over a year before going back to work, I watched Phil Donahue every day. He was a liberal, but he let the opposing argument be spoken. He strongly said his opinion without being an insulting jerk. As a young gal, I learned a lot from him and his guests, and later, learned even more from our beloved Rush.
