Phil Donahue, the legendary TV talk show host, has died. He was 88.

Donahue passed away Sunday night following a long illness, his family confirmed to “Today” Monday morning.

The late star died at home surrounded by his loved ones, including his wife of 44 years, Marlo Thomas, his sister, his children, grandchildren and his beloved golden retriever, Charlie.

The family’s statement requested that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Phil Donahue/Notre Dame Scholarship Fund in lieu of flowers.

Guess a good thing I say about the man is I hope he got right with his maker before his soul took off.

Did Geraldo Rivera “off” him with a chair?

I remember him interviewing this NY real estate guy named Donald in 1987. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxNkMkAe7F0

Speaking of Johnny Carson I had no clue he was a Democrat

Today's Democrat party is not Johnny Carson's Democrat party.

That’s for sure. The civility Johnny showed both Nixon and Reagan was what struck me the most considering what we see on late night these days with hosts having no issues showing their leftist biases.

Donahue pushed the envelop to the left.

I remember him having a lesbian couple and their baby on his show in the 1980s. (One of the lesbians was the baby's natural mother.)

It was considered Shocking! Lesbians! And they're raising at child!

Yet though the show was presented as objective journalism, it was an early step in normalizing what became the second Gay Nineties, and eventual gay marriage in the 2000s.

He had his following, but he was no Morton Downey Jr.

Phil Hartman did a great impersonation of Donahue on SNL.

Marlo won’t get to marry to Ted Baxter either.

Carson’s interview with Billy Graham was quite interesting, and is online.

How a Bible seminary failed due to liberalism and how Phil Donahue was the final straw before one of their professors resigned

Long ago, before the internet I remember many allegations coming out against him and his touchy-feely actions with kids.

And of course the several woman (Can’t remember them) who said he raped them.

So yes, a total lib sh!tbag.

His wife's (Marlo Thomas) latest IG post ...

Hello, Friends.

I'm sure by now you've heard the very sad news that I lost my sweetheart last night, so I know you understand that I'll be stepping away from this page for a while to take care of myself and the many people who took care of Phil, and held him close to their hearts.

But I didn't want to disappear without saying thank you for the beautiful messages of love and support that have been coming in all day, and for the wonderful and generous way that you've let Phil and me share our life adventure with you over the years. As a man who spent his career loving his audiences, Phil got such a kick out of our cozy little community here, and I know he would be very touched by the heartwarming thoughts and memories you've been sharing.

Until I return, I wish you good health and happy days in the company of family and friends, and I hope that you will continue to hold close those you cherish most, just as I was blessed to do with my beloved Phillip.

Love, Marlo

P.S. This is one of my favorite photos of Phil and me, taken on vacation.
