He got served.
The incensed Detroit judge who slapped handcuffs on a 15-year-old girl and threatened to throw her in prison after she nodded off during a field trip to his courtroom has been suspended and will undergo training, officials said.
Judge Kenneth King’s docket was temporarily suspended by the chief judge of the 36th District Court in Detroit after he was filmed berating the teenager who visited the court on a legal education trip with nonprofit group Greening of Detroit, The Detroit News reported.
King will undergo training to “address the underlying issues that contributed to this incident” after the livestreamed freakout, Chief Judge William McConico said in a statement Thursday.
The judge snapped when he spotted the girl falling asleep, footage shows. He woke her up and began scolding her about respect and how to act in a courtroom.
“You fall asleep in my courtroom one more time, I’m gonna put you in back, understood?” he fumed.
“One thing you’ll learn about my courtroom is I’m not a toy, I’m not to be played with.”
When the teen apparently talked back to him, King ordered a court officer to slap handcuffs on her and make her wear a jumpsuit.
He then threatened to send the teen to a juvenile detention center, which he described as dangerous and full of “mentally ill kids.”

Was he a Democrat or a Democrat?
Sheniqua fell asleep!
It would depend on the reason. Is she merely undisciplined or does she have terrible time?
A lot of context is left out. Certainly a sleepy kid should be asked to please pay attention or face a session in study hall.
…But I doubt the judge is wrong about juvenile detention centers!

She is now quite educated on the legal system. I won’t stoop to call it a “justice” system.
She wasn’t on trial it was a damn field trip, these judges are not royalty and have to be taken down a notch.
I assume she was black also so no harm no foul. Down the memory hole this goes.
The whole concept of calling someone ‘your honor’ because they went to law school is ridiculous and feeds into the inflated ego that is incompatible with trying to ensure truth and justice are served. “All Rise” is also a joke.
Judges should have to make a verbal pledge/oath at the beginning of each and every court session stating that they pledge to act only within the context of their knowledge of the law, without any prejudice, and without letting their own emotions, biases, and ego impact their role as public servants dedicated to justice and protection of the citizens they serve.
If testifying in court requires taking an oath so should overseeing a trial.
Hear, Hear !
Right or wrong, it's the judges court and juvies don't have rights.
NOW go cry in your chocolate milk because I chastized your stupid comment.
You certainly are a text book example of a dunning kreuger subject.
The words of an arrogant sphincter, whose ego has far outstripped his actual authority.
King ordered a court officer to slap handcuffs on her and make her wear a jumpsuit.
Violation of civil rights under color of the law ...
What law did she break?
You assumed correctly. Both the judge 👨🏻⚖️ and the girl were black, as were her classmates.
IMHO you can tell a lot about people by how they treat those who societally have a lower ‘rank’ than them. But by the grace of God there go I. Treat everyone well.
My comment about judges and courtroom protocol could easily be applied to those in political office and other professions - including my own. Humility is a great virtue and one that all of us could have more of. Arrogance, unfortunately, is more ubiquitous.
The say they cannot remove him from the bench but he can be arrested for assault and kidnapping. While she was out of line, she was not part of a judicial proceeding so his power over her should not be covered under judicial immunity.
