Less than a month after announcing his retirement from touring due to serious health issues, Jack Russell, the frontman of Great White, has died.

He was 63.

“With tremendous sadness, we announce the loss of our beloved Jack Patrick Russell — father, husband, cousin, uncle, and friend,” a post on the singer’s X, formerly Twitter, page on Thursday read. “Jack passed peacefully in the presence of his wife Heather ann Russell, son Matthew Hucko, cousin Naomi Breshears Barbor, and dear friends Billy and Cherly Pawelcik.”

White announced his retirement and revealed his health issues on his Facebook page on July 17.

“To my fans and friends, It is with my heaviest of hearts that I must announce my retirement from the road,” he wrote. “After a recent diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia (LBD) and Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) in May 2024, I am unable to perform at the level I desire and at the level you deserve. Words cannot express my gratitude for the many years of memories, love and support. Thank you for letting me live my dreams. You have made my life a wonder. Love, Jack Russell.

I saw him with the “new” Great White about a year ago? at a small venue near my home. Russell seemed very frail. His voice was still amazing, but he apologized that he had to sit during most of the show due to his health (back issues). He was very nice and appreciative of the fans. They did play “Desert Moon” during the set, and I have to admit I was surprised; it was very haunting. He seemed humbled, and I’m sure everyone involved with The Station fire will never forget that horrible, preventable fire and all those who perished unnecessarily.

RIP Jack Russell.

"Just get your vaccinations," he reiterated. "It's not a big deal. I got mine as soon as I could… It took me a while to find a place [to get vaccinated]. I had to drive four hours each way — twice. But I did it. It was, like, hey, this is how important it was to me."

Nothing to see here. Everything is a coincidence.

I have also heard of them, but know nothing else about them, except they were the band who caused the Station Night Club fire.

The Station nightclub fire occurred on the evening of February 20, 2003, at The Station, a nightclub and hard rock music venue located at 211 Cowesett Avenue in West Warwick, Rhode Island, United States, killing 100 people and injuring 230. During a concert by the rock band billed as “Jack Russell’s Great White”, an offshoot of the original Great White band,

The fire was the deadliest fireworks accident in U.S. history and the fourth-deadliest nightclub fire in U.S. history. It was also the second-deadliest nightclub fire in New England, behind the 1942 Cocoanut Grove fire.

What made him legendary? Just curious since I’ve never heard of him.

Agreed. They are better known for The Station fire that killed 100 people in RI due to Great White’s pyrotechnics display.

I never heard of this Jack Russell before. But I have a friend who had a Jack Russell terrier (who died several years ago—the dog, that is).

I thought that was Whitesnake with David Coverdale who made Tawny famous.

She also did a video for Ratt.

Interestingly enough as well, she also was having an affair with OJ Simpson when he was married to Nicole.

It was when I read about this that I learned what a “flashover” is. The fire started at one end of the room. Someone at the other end of the room might get the idea “I think I’ll stick around and watch it. It’s a safe distance away.”

But what happens is the super-heated air rises, and moves horizontally, so you could be ten, twenty, fifty feet from the fire, and you don’t realize there’s very hot air above you, no matter that you’re down the other end of the room. Eventually the hot air above you reaches a temperature where the whole room goes up at once. That’s what happened at the Station Fire.

The moral is - you see a fire, you get the hell out.
