Legendary rock band frontman dead at 63

Less than a month after announcing his retirement from touring due to serious health issues, Jack Russell, the frontman of Great White, has died.

He was 63.

“With tremendous sadness, we announce the loss of our beloved Jack Patrick Russell — father, husband, cousin, uncle, and friend,” a post on the singer’s X, formerly Twitter, page on Thursday read. “Jack passed peacefully in the presence of his wife Heather ann Russell, son Matthew Hucko, cousin Naomi Breshears Barbor, and dear friends Billy and Cherly Pawelcik.”

White announced his retirement and revealed his health issues on his Facebook page on July 17.

“To my fans and friends, It is with my heaviest of hearts that I must announce my retirement from the road,” he wrote. “After a recent diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia (LBD) and Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) in May 2024, I am unable to perform at the level I desire and at the level you deserve. Words cannot express my gratitude for the many years of memories, love and support. Thank you for letting me live my dreams. You have made my life a wonder. Love, Jack Russell.

When the headline states “Legendary” instead of the name, it is only know to be “legendary” within a certain niche. After I read the headline, I knew Mick Jagger didn’t die.

I have heard of the band, but knew nothing about their sound.
That said, 63 is young to have Lewy body dementia, or any dementia at all. Sounds like he had a very rough last few years, but he is quoted from earlier this year, sounding as clear as a bell. It was mostly his body slowly closing down, as with the MSA/

In the event of a world wide nuclear war, 3 things are sure to survive.......cockroaches, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. 😏

Many would recognize “Once Bitten Twice Shy” but not know who performed it. I have a few albums but I would not say the band is legendary.

I don’t give a fricking shirt about him.

But to the people who died in the RI fire.

Rest in Peace.

Honestly, I couldn’t recall the band, but that song and the 100 people who died at one of their concerts, brought it back to me.

LittleBillyInfidel had originally posted this, and I just wanted to get it back up for him.

He had mentioned some kind things about the man and he was a neighbor of his.

Thank you, CM. I don’t post very much at all. Do you know what I did wrong?

I saw a documentary on that fire.

It was quite disturbing, and it makes you realize just how important it is to be aware of your surroundings in buildings with a lot of people and hazardous wall and ceiling flammables.

Thank you, CM. Yeah, Jack Russell lived here in Colorado and we were scheduled to go fishing on my pontoon later this month. I knew he was becoming very fragile, so I was weary of any waves that might have beaten him up. This loss is a shock and I feel badly for his loving wife, Heather.

Isn’t Great White the band that had the terrible fire that killed a bunch of people?

The title you posted wasn’t the one that was then at that link.

This was what you had:
“Jack Russell of Great White, Dies at 63”

When I went, it said this:
“Legendary rock band frontman dead at 63”

It’s a minor tweak, but mods/Jim at least want the title identical, for searching purposes (it helps eliminate 100% duplicates).

They are sometimes tolerant of words in parenthesis, at the end. I add those to mine for clarity, and they are deleted out, half the time—and I am a top financial donor!

That was a cover of a song by Ian Hunter of Mott the Hoople on his first solo album; hit #14 in the UK.

When I listen to “Once Bitten, Twice shy”, one verse stands out.

“You didn’t know how Rock ‘N Roll burned. So you bought a candle and you lived and you learned.”

Talk about tragic irony…

Ohhhhh! OK, cool. Thank you for that! I should have reread the guidelines before I posted, cuz I also know some sites are forbidden and didn’t check for that, either.

Jack was grateful for its success, but he was disappointed that it was a cover that he was mostly known for.

I’ll look for that documentary. What I find disturbing is the band gets all the fault pointed at them, but the venue was aware pyrotechnics were part of the show and raised no alarms to voice any concern.

They regularly set off pyrotechnics at the start of their shows. Jack Russell knew this. He should have taken personal responsibility to check the safety of these devices at every venue he played at. Better yet, he shouldn’t have used them at all.

I bought one of their albums in the 1980s. I thought they were okay, but certainly not “legendary.” IMHO something of a a 2nd rate, derivative knockoff of Led Zeppelin or Foghat.
