Only if they have left in trusted hands a complete package of evidence on the matter they are warning about. Arguably, they should not even publicly announce until leaving such a package.
I was being subtle in my earlier post but they would have likely published the unnamed paper in the unnamed journal long before flying off to attend the unnamed conference. Killing a planeload of people just to stop the powerpoint presentation and question and answer period would be of little impact.
