Green Day went beyond the lyrics of its songs to send a message earlier this week.
The legendary punk rockers who’s music is the soundtrack to many children of the '90s played a concert in Washington, D.C. Monday night at Nationals Park. Normally the home of MLB’s Washington Nationals, it became the setting of a political statement from the group’s lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong.
Green Day’s longtime front man held up a rubber Halloween mask of former president and second-term hopeful Donald Trump at the show to reveal the word “idiot” written across the forehead. The moment was captured on video and is going viral on social media.
Since then, there has been backlash for the 52-year-old Armstrong.
Political host Graham Allen wrote on X, “Green Day is complete and utter trash that sold their souls a long time ago! They should be boycotted and investigated for incitement of violence against President Trump!”

Billie Joe asked us a question long ago: “Do you have the time to listen to me whine?” My answer has always been a resounding, “No.”
Being stupid, hateful, and a homo is no way to go through life.
‘Going viral’ stopped being a thing about 15 years ago.
I can’t boycott Greenday. I’ve never heard any of their garbage.
A rubber Halloween mask? Wow, those guys are really cutting edge. Hard to reply to something that witty.
They are ignorant trash.
How original. There’s a halloween mask for every president. Big deal.
I hope they had the time of their life...
Their music sucks.
Pop musicians - is there anything they don’t know?
I think this band has been leftist trash from their inception.
Back when I was 18, someone wore a Nixon mask to a halloween party.
I ignore entertainers politics, believing they do it just for the publicity (at least, those on the Left do!).
It’s what they wore to rob banks in Point Break.
Wait, people are only working out now that Green Day and left wing?
They went from rebels to palace guards.
These clowns are already in the RRHOF in Cleveland. It shows the low standards they have for inductees into that hall these days!
This was well before that came out, 1977? This band has no originality. Just like movies today, remake everything.
About as original as their music
I don’t think many Trump supporters like or care about the feathered band or their music, so the stunt was like “preaching to the choir”. And no one else cares.
