Green Day went beyond the lyrics of its songs to send a message earlier this week.
The legendary punk rockers who’s music is the soundtrack to many children of the '90s played a concert in Washington, D.C. Monday night at Nationals Park. Normally the home of MLB’s Washington Nationals, it became the setting of a political statement from the group’s lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong.
Green Day’s longtime front man held up a rubber Halloween mask of former president and second-term hopeful Donald Trump at the show to reveal the word “idiot” written across the forehead. The moment was captured on video and is going viral on social media.
Since then, there has been backlash for the 52-year-old Armstrong.
Political host Graham Allen wrote on X, “Green Day is complete and utter trash that sold their souls a long time ago! They should be boycotted and investigated for incitement of violence against President Trump!”

Like other commies.
I know.
They don’t rise to the level of “rocker.” More like “derivative, opportunistic, corporate wannabes.”
Thankfully, I’ve never heard Keanu Reeves talk about politics, left or right.
Minus the lyrics and the POS singer, I could listen. I play guitar, very crappy, and there’s some Green Day stuff I like for the music.
They usually sounded to me like a bad British punk rock cover band. The kind where they go on at 7:00 before the better bands bigger crowd shows up. They’re also kind of fem, but then again most libs are.
“Billie Joe” is a drugged-out, part-time sodomite. Trump should take his scorn as a badge of honor.
It’s their schtick. They did it with Bush.
Billie Joe Armstrong sounds like a bottom.
Nugent for years peddled a draft-dodging story that he much later disclaimed, but the truly disgusting and undisputed fact is that he was a persistent predator of underage girls (which was something of the norm with rock musicians back in the 70s and 80s, sadly.)
Nothing says punk like simping for the establishment before heading home to your mansion.
Dude dropped out of high school at 14. Real genius.
I hate, hate, hate Green Day
late middle-aged men still playing the disaffected suburban SoCal teen punk rocker schtick of the late 80s.
pathetic
Backlash needs to be directed at the Nationals...
WHO’s???? Who the hell wrote this crap. Did they mean “whose” in the possessive usage? Idiots, listen to this crap “music” of zippo bippo- pseudo hip shite.
He pulled a Kathy Griffin, waving around a Trump severed head, two weeks after the Trump assassination attempt and murder of a firefighter, and severe wounding of others, and the crowd in DC cheers! Yeah!
Whole damned town should be fenced in and water shut off.
I thought he was leaving when GW Bush got elected.
I’m going to take a bit of a contrarian position here ... while most of their music does suck camel b@$!s, there are one or two that I do like the tune to and the lyrics aren’t overly political. I’m going to continue listening to those songs (free, or course) and go on their social media to tell them I am an AVID Trump supporter. He’s the type of d^$&%#bag that would be greatly upset by it >:-)
The fact that Green Day is in the Hall Of Fame while Supertramp is not is an outrage to humanity.
I think the guy sings a song about playing with himself.
Real role model.
