Funny enough, when I read that, two things popped to mind: In "The Madness of King George", Georgie gets all put out when his doc looks him in the eye. "I have you in my eye, sir!" "And I have you in mine!"

The second is a movie with slaves in it ("Skin Game"? Maybe?) where a new slave was told how to interact with the "white folk" and was told to not look them in the eye unless the white spoke first.

In Kamala's case, I'd say it's a little bit of all three: she demands to be treated like royalty and an owner of human beings and she's a bloody monster of mythological proportions.
