Money’s for sure tight in the McD target customer base - the working lower middle class with kids.
Not that I frequent McDs much but it’s been my experience over the years most people in the ones I’ve been to are people of color.....on BOTH sides of the counter.
Their single biggest customer was, young married female with children who once a week would stop in to have a breakfast.
It was probably her little treat. But when thing are tight financially those "little treats" are the first thing to go.
