The president of Palestine’s National Olympic Committee says he will not shake hands with his Israeli counterpart, or any of their delegation, at Paris 2024 unless they recognise his state’s right to independence.
Jibril Rajoub, who has led calls for Israel’s athletes to be banned from international competition amid the war in Gaza, told the Guardian he would not engage with Yael Arad or her colleagues out of principle if they crossed paths during the Olympics.
He also claimed the Palestine team have not been given any instructions about how to conduct themselves in the event that they come up against an Israeli competitor, saying his organisation will guard against any violations of the Olympic Charter.
“Before you ask me, ask them: do they recognise the very existence of the Palestinian people and our right to an independent state, next to Israel, according to UN legitimacy?” Rajoub said. “If they have this commitment, as a matter of principle I have no problem shaking hands with anyone who is recognising my right to self-determination and our right to existence.
“But I will not shake hands as lip service with anyone who does not. It isn’t a matter of courtesy, it’s a matter of principle. They would have to be ready to fight to build bridges of peace by mutual recognition.”

Funny, since they haven’t even declared their independence. I think that’s sort of a prerequisite.
They haven’t declared it because they don’t want to recognize Israel’s borders or right to independence, and they are a basket case of a territory. They have two entirely separate governments on two separate land masses. Gaza is those by Islamists and the West Bank by Arabists in fancy Italian suits. They don’t get along - two different ideologies. Corrupt as all get out and almost entirely dependent on others for nearly all essential needs.
And their dependency attitude continues - demanding others recognize their independence when they can’t and don’t recognize it themselves. Nobody even knows who’s in charge and neither land mass had held elections in nearly 2 decades. Abbas is almost 89 years old and the Hamas leadership in Gaza is either dead or in hiding.

The imaginary "Palestinians" have been offered a separate state many times and have always declined. They don't want a "two-state solution." They want Israel gone and all Jews dead, and they will settle for nothing less.
There's no such thing as Palestine to identify the unified country of Gaza and the West Bank.
Gaza refuses to be under Israel or the West Bank's rule.

Back in the late 1920s, nobody paid much attention to what Hitler was saying. Ha, ha, ha. He’s just exaggerating.
The world paid dearly for that oversight.
Now it’s 2024. Nobody is paying much attention to what the Islamists are saying. Ha, ha, ha. They’re just exaggerating.
The Olympic ideal, going all the way back to antiquity and it’s origins, was and should continue to be that for a brief period of Time there should be no politics and no hatred, just the pursuit of excellence in athletics and the enjoyment of watching the worlds best athletes perform. There is plenty of time to go back to existing animosities.
What I find ironic is that the Palestinians, many of whom have a significant amount of Greek ancestry, pay no attention to this whatsoever. To them, every minute of the day and every event is political in nature, all in service of their murderous prophet.
Just curious what team or teams do they have?
