It is believed that D-Mannose is the key part of cranberry juice that helps make the urinary tract too slippery for bacteria to stay in your body.

Vitamin C works well too.
First indications, drink quarts of water and take a lot of vitamin C. Cheaper by far and more convenient to store.

how much did it costs to ‘determine’ this?

The women I know that have a history of getting UTIs regularly only do so if they stop drinking cranberry juice for a week or so. It’s a pretty direct and obvious relationship.

So the medical community finally gets around to officially recognizing what has been known for decades.
And we’re supposed to be impressed with them or something?

Cranberries are great for UTI’s in many cases but if one is prone to developing calcium oxalate crystals cranberries are not recommended.
To: ConservativeMind
Okay. This has been known for years hasn’t it? I’ve always rushed to buy cranberry juice when I’ve felt a UTI was possibly starting. My Mom recommended it because her doctor recommended it. You can even buy cranberry pills that say on the label “to help and prevent urinary tract infections”.
Why do I suddenly see all the studies with new “startling” information on things I thought were already known?

I take one of these type of capsules a day and have had zero problems. Cranberry works but be careful with the juice as some are loaded with sugar.
