THIS IS the moment Ukrainian soldiers shot down a Russian Su-25 attack jet.
The incident occurred near Pokrovsk, Donetsk Oblast, the Khortytsia group of forces said on July 23.
Anti-air units shot the plane down as it was attempting to fire on Ukrainian positions, the statement by the group forces said.
The Khortytsia group of forces also shared a video that showed an anti-aircraft missile being launched and striking a plane in the distance.
The Soviet-designed Su-25, nicknamed "Frogfoot" by NATO, is a heavily armored ground-attack aircraft.

The su-25 is slow and the most vulnerable aircraft (on both sides) in this war.
Very similar role to the beloved A-10 thunderbolt, which also has the similar issues when fighting a modern military. The A10 has superior ECM but is about 1/2 speed of the frogfoot.

Ukraine shot down 2 of them so far today.

They’re basically like tanks. Very vulnerable to modern technology.
I believe the Ukraine pretty much gave up using theirs. Even said “no” to A10s.

Not sure what ordinance an A-10 can carry but I could be a nice launch platform, with that said there are better options
As I understand it is pretty robust and relatively easy to work on, engines are less susceptible to FOD so less then ideal runways are good. But burrerrrp is out of the question
Gripen sounds like a good choice

“CRASH AND BURN Dramatic moment Putin’s £8.5million fighter jet is shot out of the sky before plummeting to ground in fireball explosion.”
Apparently Putin is a fighter pilot.
To: marcusmaximus
That cost probably wouldn’t even buy a wing for a craft in our fleet. Not a big deal for them.

We can still make good use of the A-10 when we finally decide to deal with the Mexican cartels.

I would say the Ukrainians didn’t shoot down a thing. It was an American missile battery. Manned by US “advisers”.

At least the pilot ejected safely. Don’t know if the Ukes have him in custody yet.

Your boy Biden is out! Did you weep? This war has about 4 months at most. I shall enjoy your comments of pain and rage. 😎

Ha, 8.5 Million (close enough to compare) is cheap. We spend over 177 Million on one F-35 and over 143 Million on one F-22.

Your Biden gave your Putin the green light to invade Ukraine in a “minor incursion” and your crappy Russian army botched the whole deal.
To: marcusmaximus
Hmmm....I do wonder why it doesn't matter to you when Ukrainian jets get shot down. They've lost around 30 aircraft in this war. Don't you care? You never say anything about it like, "Oh noes! Those Russians just shot down our $8 million dollar jet! Here's the awful footage!
Meanwhile, NATO's shoot down of that Russian jet doesn't change the war, because the Ukraine has 78 combat capable aircraft (vague terminology, eh?) left and Russia has 1169 such aircraft (source below). So the Ukraine is being destroyed, Putin has 15 times the number of airfcraft than the Ukraine, and you're cheering that the Russians lost a plane.
