CHICAGO — A South Side man is accused of working with accomplices to lure three people into a robbery trap through an advertisement on Facebook Marketplace.
Prosecutors said a man arranged to buy a Yamaha motorcycle from a Facebook account named “Larry West” and arranged to complete the transaction in the 6700 block of South Indiana on June 28.
The man and two friends went to the 6700 block of South Indiana to meet “Larry West,” but they were met by a young boy who claimed to be his son, according to a CPD report. The boy led all three men to the back of a house, saying that’s where the motorcycle was located.
As soon as they reached the backyard, three men confronted the group, including 18-year-old Calvin Savage, prosecutors said. Savage allegedly pointed a gun at the victims and demanded their property. He got the first victim’s wallet, which contained $2,500 cash the victim brought to buy the motorcycle, officials said.

I sell on the Offerup app and ALWAYS meet in a public place with lots of folks around......and never unarmed.
“I sell on the Offerup app and ALWAYS meet in a public place with lots of folks around......and never unarmed.”
Craigslist seller here. I never go to do a deal unarmed.
Does CR allow users to rate each other?.....that comes in very handy on Offerup.
Got robbed mid-Feb of 06 on the South Side, INSIDE the fenced off property of a fresh vegetable wholesaler. I just got there from the west coast, backed up to the dock, and was standing outside truck cab when I heard a voice behind me...
I turned around to see a guy with his hand in his coat pocket, but couldn’t tell if he was holding a gun. He wanted money. All I had on me was a $20. My wallet was in the cab.
As he took the $20 I opened the cab door, leaped in and locked it. My only weapon was a hatchet beside the seat. Fortunately he left.

Well, that’s not a red flag, no siree.
Wow, I am glad you are ok
Another dumb crook.
As soon as any part of a proposed sale changes, see that as a red flag and do not proceed. No change in meeting time, place, who, what, amount.
While he was beating the hell out of one of them, the other was able to grab his wallet and take off. The not so lucky one was beaten up pretty bad and had his thumb broken.
I have done a few of these through my wife's FBM account (I want nothing to with Facebook) without issue, but then again, I was doing these small furniture transactions in mainly rural or suburban areas in Middle Tennessee the last time I was there. I wonder if the demographic makeup and overall culture (opposite of inner city chicago) has anything to do with my lack of difficulty with these transactions? No fear at all, even though I am sure the sellers were all armed.
I understand things could go pear-shaped anywhere, but I never got that "feeling" when transacting with the country folk in TN that would make me abort upon pulling up to the property. Naive on my part? Maybe.
I just truck for a farmer part time, since 2021. Gladly, driving in and out metros is pretty much a thing of the past.
The company my friend drove for was in Detroit and the thugs were your typical hood rats.
“Does CR allow users to rate each other?.”
No. I wish they did, but who knows who actually leaves the reviews? Most times it’s just a guy wanting to buy something, or a guy wanting to sell something. I have had very positive results with CL, but I still carry!
67th and Indiana is the deepest part of the Hood - anyone in their right mind would take multiple weapons and an armored car to that address.
Facebook aka Fakebook
A few times I’ve had a minority with bad reviews on offerup want to meet in the evening always after dark.
Every time I suggested pushing it to the next day they come up with an excuse why the next say won’t work......EVERY time.
