This seems like an important development.

Yes, longer battery life is really important!..................

I’m not seeing anything here about the weight/cbarge density ratio as compared to lithium ion technology. The battery could last longer (good) but if it weighs too much it’s a loser.

Every day there is another huge advance in EV batteries. Before long they will be so good they will create their own energy which you will have to drain off to power your house.

The weight isn’t different, it’s just the way they make the cathode. By crystallizing the nickel at a higher temperature, they get more recharges..........

“Yes, longer battery life is really important!.”

Yes it is until one tries to charge millions of those batteries using wind/solar/etc sources.

The communist’s desire to make everything electric based (cars, money, etc) so they can control our lives will fail because there are many, many parts to the puzzle that is a totally ‘green’ future. Most of those parts are not even being discussed much less being in development.

If it is affordable and works in the real world.

Not single crystal, densified poly crystaline.

Basic principle is still valid.

Did you know the turbine blades in modern jet engines are SINGLE crystal?

If they can do that with titanium, the same techniques can be fine-tuned for nickel electrodes!

This battery would not weigh any different than any other nickel battery. Lithium batteries are lighter than nickel batteries for the same amount of stored charge.

Nickel is cheap, and is already used as the cathode/anode material. The only difference is how the nickel terminal is formed at what temperature, producing a a solid crystal structure rather than an amorphous one......................

Yes, it's not exactly an earth-shattering innovation. It's a simple process optimization with an awful lot of cut and polish work before putting it under a SEM.

This may have been an older model that doesn’t have an ‘improved’ battery.

Don’t buy a ‘used’ EV........not just Tesla.............

Just as Big Oil encouraged Big Auto for decades to not get too enthused about increasing gas milage, Big Battery will encourage Big Auto to buy batteries that don’t last real long.

The money is in the treatment, not in the cure.
