There needs to be a lot of serious work done in the field of mental illness.

Unfortunately, most of the practitioners in the field of psychology are actually crazy and seem to want to push boundaries of insanity and perversion. So, I don’t actually expect any “serious work” to be done.

It has been conjectured that “mental illness” isn’t even a thing. It can’t be objectively measured. It’s just observed behavior that gets labeled as This problem or That problem.

Perhaps some people just need to learn to think differently about themselves and about others. A grown-up who acts like a two-year-old obviously never learned simple rules of behavior. That would manifest as a type of “mental illness” but I don’t think it’s a medical problem.

Agreed.

.....most of the practitioners in the field of psychology are actually crazy.....

High school girlfriend worked a year as a aide at McLean's, the famous Boston mental hospital for the rich and famous. That's exactly how she put it. "The staff are crazier than the patients". But we got useful quantities of psychopharmacological substances out of it, so we didn't care. Neither did the staff, who were probably high half the time themselves.

I tend to agree with your opinion of psychologists.

I think Rush at one time or another referred to them as psychobabalists.

Back in the 80’s, in my alcohol recovering days, I spent some time in front of these people. They emphasized following feelings instead of logic. And in one seminar I had to attend the azzhole speaker actually came out and said most child sex abuse cases were in Christian homes with white males as the father. This speaker was an outright leftist, and this was the mid 80’s.

Mental illness seems to be celebrated and a badge of honor, especially among some women. They are quick to announce it’s time for their meds.
