Voting rights advocates say a GOP push for legislation prohibiting noncitizens from voting is not about creating laws — that’s already prohibited.
Yet the U.S. House could vote this week on a Republican bill outlawing noncitizens from voting in federal elections. Critics of the measure say it would aggravate racial disparities and is meant to chill voter turnout among the immigrant community.
The bill would require people to provide “documentary proof of U.S. citizenship in order to register to vote in federal elections,” according to the bill summary.
Claiming a need for increased election integrity, the GOP has pushed in recent years to highlight the issue. Florida voters took action on the matter, passing an amendment barring voting by noncitizens in 2020. Florida law requires voters to present an ID or cast a provisional ballot to be compared against a voter’s signature on record.
Cosponsorship of the bill awaiting a vote from Congress is partisan in both chambers. Both U.S. Sens. Marco Rubio and Rick Scott representing Florida have signed on, as have 12 of 20 Florida GOP representatives. No Democrats, from Florida or otherwise, have signed on to the measure.
Given that partisan breakdown, the bill is not expected to become law, but that’s not the intent, according a panel of immigration advocates hosted by America’s Voice, an immigration reform organization, during a Zoom call on Tuesday.
“It’s chilling voting. And it’s chilling voting specifically in communities of color,” said Juan Espinoza, an adviser at UnidosUS, a Latino civil rights advocacy organization.
“The noncitizen nonsense is a broad and orchestrated attack on the legitimacy of Latino voters and other communities who are constantly villainized and weaponized in this country,” Espinoza said.

He voiced concern that rhetoric about noncitizens taking to the ballot box could result in Latino...

Want to deter the illegal alien criminals? Mark a car/van with and ICS placard. Park it near a polling place. Watch how many criminals turn around and walk away. Naturalized folks will want to take a piccie/selfie next to it.
I agree that there needs to be some enforcement as a deterrent. Don’t we all hear, in late March and early April of every single year, about some person who gets sentenced to jail for understating their income or just plain not filing tax returns? That is done for a very simple reason, and it isn’t about getting those particular people to pay the price for their actions. No, it is about, deterring millions of other people from doing the same thing. Generally speaking, it is a very effective technique. Well, as you have pointed out, it should also be effective when it comes to having non-citizens vote.
I would like this to apply not merely to people who are here illegally, but also to people who have green cards. Because the green card is in citizenship, it’s just permanent residency status. They may be part of the community from the standpoint of enjoying all of our other rights, but without being a citizen, they can’t get a US passport and they can’t vote.
Now we just have to see if anyone in the Republican party, anywhere in the 50 states, is actually serious about beating the Democrats and restoring our Republic. Sadly, I will not hold my breath.
Good!
Say it LOUD!
Say it OFTEN!
“until a fair and comprehensive immigration reform is passed;”
Unnecessary. Follow existing laws. Deport all illegals. Build the wall. Full stop.
"Voting rights advocates say a GOP push for legislation prohibiting noncitizens from voting is not about creating laws — that’s already prohibited [??? emphasis added]."
FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument
Democratic and Republican Trump supporters need to question why House RINOs (hint) are forgetting (ahem) to mention that the law that that we're hearing about that is being claimed to make it illegal for illegal immigrants to vote (scroll to the bottom of the referenced page of course) seems to have a “hole” in it, like Trump's border wall, actually smoking gun wording that is arguably a loophole that makes it easier for illegal immigrants to get way with illegally voting imo.
"(3) the alien reasonably believed at the time of voting in violation of such subsection that he or she was a citizen of the United States."
Contrast this unconstitutional (imo) provision in the law with the fact that women citizens had to fight long and hard to win their suffrage, evidenced by the 19th Amendment.
"19th Amendment: The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.
Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation."
Again, this Democratic and RINO pro-illegal alien loophole is a slap in the face to women citizen voters who had fight for their right to vote imo.
What's even worse is the compromised (imo) Supreme Court has already officially shrugged off this alien-supporting loophole.
"It’s not just that state officials — who are responsible for federal voter registration and elections in our country — don’t verify citizenship in this context; it’s that the Supreme Court has told them that they’re not allowed to do so. In Arizona v. Inter Tribal Council of Arizona, Inc., 570 U.S. 1 (2013), the Court held that the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA, also known as the “Motor Voter” law) prohibits states from requiring proof of citizenship when processing federal voter registration forms." -- Sen. Mike Lee, The Federalist (5.13.24)
"The high court struck down an Arizona law that required voters to show proof of citizenship in national elections. In the majority opinion (7-2), the late Justice Antonin Scalia wrote that the state law conflicted with the 1993 National Voter Registration Act (NVRA), which mandates states “accept and use” the standardized federal voter registration form for national elections. The NVRA form, developed by the federal Election Assistance Commission, does not require proof of citizenship. It only asks an applicant “aver, under penalty of perjury [emphasis added], that he is a citizen.”" —M.D. Kittle, The Federalist, 1.12.24
The Court's misguided decision (imo) concerning Arizona case noted, do institutionally indoctrinated Supreme Court justices possibly not know that the post-Civil War congressional record shows that lawmakers were concerned that renegade states who allowed illegal aliens to vote would be wrongly nullifying the Constitution's "Uniform Rule of Naturalization Clause," which elite Democrats are now wrongly trying to do imo.
"Article I, Section 8, Clause 4: To establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization [emphasis added], and uniform Laws on the subject of Bankruptcies throughout the United States;"
" If the States can admit to the elective franchise those who are not citizens, thereby neutralizing the votes of citizens, not only the Federal power of naturalization becomes a nullity, but" * * * * "a minority of citizens by the aid of aliens may control the government of the States, and through the States the government of the Union [emphasis added]." —Appendix to the Congressional Globe, 1868. (See near middle of 1st column.)
" Whatever difference there may be as to what other rights appertain to a citizen, all must agree that he has the right to petition and also to claim the Protection of the Government. These belong to him as a member the body politic, and the possession of them is what separates citizens of the lowest condition from aliens and slaves. To suppose that a State can make an alien a citizen or confer on him the right of voting would involve the absurdity of giving him the direct and immediate control of the action of the General Government, from which he can claim no protection and to which he has no right to present a petition [emphasis added]." —Appendix to the Congressional Globe, 1868. (See bottom half of 1st column.)
In fact, Section 2 of the 14th Amendment (14A), that amendment ratified shortly after the excerpts above appeared in the congressional record, is a penalty for states where ballot box fraud has occurred.
Note the zero tolerance "hair triggers" in that section that should be a warning for any state thinking about rigging an election, triggers that Pence and the J6 Congress wrongly ignored imo when they voted to accept OBiden's electoral votes in 2020 despite allegations of vote-counting problems.
"is denied to any"
"or in any way abridged,"
"Section 2 of 14A: Representatives shall be apportioned among the several States according to their respective numbers, counting the whole number of persons in each State, excluding Indians not taxed. But when the right to vote at any election [all emphases added] for the choice of electors for President and Vice President of the United States, Representatives in Congress, the Executive and Judicial officers of a State, or the members of the Legislature thereof, is denied to any of the male inhabitants of such State, being twenty-one years of age, and citizens of the United States, or in any way abridged, except for participation in rebellion, or other crime, the basis of representation therein shall be reduced in the proportion which the number of such male citizens shall bear to the whole number of male citizens twenty-one years of age in such State." [Apportionment of Representatives]
"Section 5 of 14A: The Congress shall have power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article."
With Section 2 in mind, consider that if this were a better world, the feds would be reminding all states before an election that the feds will be darkening the doorway of any state to investigate allegations of possible violations of constitutional voting integrity protections.
So while post-Civil War lawmakers were concerned about renegade states who might try to nullify the "Uniform Rule of Naturalization Clause" by allowing illegals to vote, all three branches of the corrupt federal government have arguably joined renegade states who are now allegedly trying to nullify that clause by using illegal aliens to rig elections imo.
Since Congress has repeatedly proven that it is an enemy of the people imo, it is now up to Democratic and Republican Trump supporters to effectively "impeach and remove" ALL (exceptions?) state and federal lawmakers and executives in November. Patriots need to support hopeful Trump 47 with a new, Constitution-respecting Congress, state lawmakers too, not only so that he will not be a lame duck president from the first day of his second term, but will support him to quickly finish draining the swamp.
I spent many years working at an unemployment office. We were told that if a person checked the box to indicate they were a citizen, we were not to question it. Even if they couldn’t speak a word of English. Even through Federal law doesn’t allow illegal immigrants to collect unemployment benefits. That was decades ago, and still stands.
