ICE is already going to be illegal in all of the he EU in 2030 so Europeans will be driving EVs or at least the only thing for sale will be EVs or plug in hybrids that run on biofuels. Germany got an exemption for synthetic fuels made from electricity via Power to X technology and biofuels that have sustainably certificates. That’s what the EU voted for so the laws will have to be voted out not going to happen so Ford knows EVs are the only thing for sale in the EU in six years. China and India both are also outlawing ICE by 2035 time frames so have 17 US states and the EPA has set the fuel standards so high by 2027 that only hybrids or EVs can reach them. California has CARB and they outlawed ICE by 2030 no car maker is going to make cars that cannot be sold in the most populated state so California and the 16 others are setting the market in the USA as well. It’s coming like it or not.
Good news is sodium ion and aluminum ion + aluminum graphene cells are going to change the playing field. Sodium ion can be 10C charged that’s 6 min for 700 miles of range and 20000 to 50000 cycles to 80% SOH. Sodium salts cannot burn so sodium.cells are fire proof they don’t use sodium metal it’s all ions in salt form. Aluminum cells have proven 66C charge rates and tens of thousands of ultra high energy charging cycles. Aluminum is trivalent so three times the columb energy density of lithium it’s also the only chemistry that exceeds gasoline in energy density per kg on a mass for mass basis. It’s only recently that mass production of graphene went from $1500+ per kg down to pennys per kg the University of Queensland has a process that uses natural gas and turns it into pure.graphene and hydrogen gas in bulk by the metric tonne quantities. They also patented the 60+C aluminum cells using their special graphene. They are scaling up to commercial cell production. Their cells will fundamentally change the power tool and personal electronic device market. Cell phones packs that can charge in under a minute and last for a week due to aluminum having triple the electrons per ion moved. It is for that reason alone this tech will be commercialized EVs are down the list for them.
