Google News Ranks AI-Generated Spam as Top Results Above Actual Stories

Despite recent algorithm changes aimed at improving search quality, Google News continues to face challenges with AI-generated spam content appearing in its top results, frequently outranking original reporting.

(snip)

The issue came to light when a journalist, while searching for information on Adobe’s AI policies, stumbled upon a plagiarized article at the top of Google News results. The article, published on a website called Syrus #Blog, was a near-exact copy of a piece originally published by Wired, with only minor alterations in phrasing. Further investigation revealed that this was not an isolated incident, as similar plagiarized content was found in multiple languages, affecting articles from various reputable news sources.

Continuing to muck about with the search engine for ideological purposes is going to render Google irrelevant if something isn't changed, imho.

But the bolded part prompted a thought: how is that any different from what the mockingbird media does on a daily basis? They get their daily talking points, then maybe dress it up a little, but the basic story is the exact same. Rush Limbaugh used to have segments where he would put togther soundbites from multiple media sources--it sounded like a group of parrots.

Great article.

AI is programmed by amoral progressives. Like any other conputerized product, it is garbage in, garbage out.

Somebody said, “Oh, but AI will learn on its own!”

How does it learn? By rules taught by amoral progressives. By what standard does it judge truth? Garbage standards given it by amoral progressives.

I’m not necessarily against AI. I’ve used it to save time researching for the purpose of formulating specifications. I will say its not a perfect tool, but it does have its uses.

I’ve noticed a decline in “search” both on Google and duck go go. Things I could easily find are no longer there.

“Hide Google AI Overviews”

Google hasn’t been a search engine in over a decade. They even stopped calling it that. They call it a decision engine. They decide what’s best for you. Your search terms are only tangentially related to your results. All the old tricks that people keep telling you, put it in quotation marks, key words etc. are all useless now. It ignores that like a willful two year old child and provides you very recent, highly commercialized results. Also highly politicized results. If you want actual results you have to go to Bing which is slightly better, DuckDuckGo which is slightly better than that, Yandex, or ultimately a pay for play actual search engine.

I would love to see the Russian for Chinese introduce a version of google circa 2010 and watch them destroy google.

Google is already irrelevant. I get so sick of searching for something, something that I know exists that I have seen before from a few years ago. And no matter how I alter the search terms, 5, 6 or 7 times, it makes no difference. Unless you want results oriented towards some corporate interest, shopping, or pop culture within the last couple of years, or woke political results, you won’t find what you’re looking for.

I have found a great number of sites with different domain names that sound legit, but each has the exact same original article, with no credit to the others. They even have the article copied, verbatim, multiple times, to push it up the search engine relevance list, to the first pages.

I have an ad blocker, so I know they aren’t getting money from my visit, but this is an extensive practice.

Set up a site and copy content and expect the original author doesn’t see it.

I fully expect copy-write lawsuits to go through the ceiling due to plagiarizing other peoples work. AI cannot generate any independent thought. All it can do is grab information already out there and make it sound good. Thus the very nature of AI is the ability to generate articles by using information others have already written and produced.
