For $30,000 to $100,000, wealthy women from China, Russia, Nigeria and elsewhere can fly to the U.S., stay in private Beverly Hills mansions & boutique Miami homes, give birth in the U.S., and return home.

Under current law, these children are U.S. citizens. Eventually, they can bring their family members over too.

According to the Center for Immigration studies, this “birth tourism” industry may have produced around 36,000 children in 2012 alone.

Some Chinese couples have found an even easier way to game the system. They hire American gestational surrogates (usually in California, which has permissive surrogacy laws), then fly the newborn back to China without ever setting foot in the U.S. themselves. The government doesn’t track how often this happens, but surrogacy agencies suggest it occurs hundreds of times per year.

These kids grow up in China, speaking Chinese, under CCP rule. Yet they’re U.S. citizens.

This isn’t just an immigration issue & it certainly shouldn’t be partisan to say that there’s a deep problem with this system.
