Taylor Swift Dedicates Live Debut of ‘Clara Bow’ to Stevie Nicks

Taylor Swift wrapped up her third and final Eras Tour date in Dublin, Ireland, at Aviva Stadium on Sunday, and she debuted The Tortured Poet’s Department’s closing track “Clara Bow” live along with giving it a special dedication to an icon who was also in attendance.

“You don’t even know she’s doing it, she’s just become friends with so many female artists just to be a guiding hand,” Swift said before delivering the song on acoustic guitar. “I can’t tell you how rare that is. She’s a hero of mine and also someone that I can tell her any secrets — she’d never tell anybody. She’s really helped me through so much over the years. I’m talking about Stevie Nicks. So I’m going to play ‘Clara Bow’ for the first time for her.”

The song pays tribute to Nicks with the line: “You look like Stevie Nicks/In ’75, the hair and lips/Crowd goes wild at her fingertips/Half moonshine, a full eclipse.” During her performance, she mashed up the song with Red’s “The Lucky One.”

The only showbiz Clara Bow I know of was a silent movie actress who became famous for her Flapper, or party girl movies back when Charlie Chaplin was making one hit film after the other
I think Clara was best known for lught comedy,
As with Mae West.

It’s culturally relevant because Taylor is literally America’s main export of sorts around the world for the moment. And Steve Nicks is a generation bridge musically.

It's a noteworthy juxtaposition of musical generations and styles. While I'm not a fan per se of either woman, as a lifelong musician I acknowledge their God-given talents and respect their career successes.

IMO neither is a paragon of virtue, but virtue doesn't get airplay, then or now. This was a nice gesture on Swift's part. It's very clear that Nicks was a huge influence on her musical development.

That could be said of an unfortunate number of recent threads. But I note that you cared enough (albeit negatively) to add a comment. :-)

One of the nice things about FR is that it's real easy, trivial in fact, to skip over threads that are uninteresting or upsetting or offensive. I might suggest that you exercise that ability if you see any more threads whose titles suggest that you'd find them uninteresting. It works for me...

You might want to consider minding your own business too...

I post whatever I want to whatever thread I want... You have a problem with that, take it up with the boss, I suppose.

Sorry my comment appears to have offended you, that wasn't my intention. I certainly don't have amy problem at all with what you post, in this thread or elsewhere. I feel the same as you about that freedom.

As for minding my own business, well, hmmm. This is, after all, an interactive forum where replies to comments are the very life of the threads. You, I, or anyone else can reply to any comment they wish to. It's up to the Mods to determine if something is out of line or against the rules.

Anyway, I hope you have a good rest of the evening, and perhaps see you on another thread sometime. I'm calling it a night.

“She’s really helped me through so much over the years”

No Man-Adam Image

Hybridization seeding. Literally, “As in the Days of Noah.

Disatified, and envious of The Adam, they’ll take the Coming Hybridization.

In 30 or 40 years Taylor Swift will be a plague like Cher or Streisand. She has enough business sense to more or less keep her mouth shut now or at least not be too obnoxious about politics, but once her career is over, I expect her to shift her attention away from ex-boyfriends and onto politics.

Okay, Just know that as a longtime Freeper as you are, that one thing we can’t stand here is self-appointed thread police... That’s where the ‘mind your own beeswax’ thing came into it...

My reply on that thread was respectful, non snarky, and made my point briefly and concisely. I stand by the point I made in that comment completely.

Taylor Swift? What’s that? Some sort of a fast seamstress that can whip up a new dress or suit in a jiffy?

Thanks for posting this thread, Protege, and thanks for your Comments, dayglored.

I have always enjoyed popular culture that involves attractive young women.

It is a nice break from the trolls who have infected every floor of the Free Republic Building.

I especially like Clara Bow, who over came poverty and a mentally ill mother (head injury) to be one of the most successful actors in the silent and early Talkie film era.
