Fire the agents, their bosses, their bosses’ bosses, and strip all their pensions.
That’s the bare minimum they deserve.
Good point, both of you.
Some local departments have policies that prohibit an employee from ‘retiring early’ if they’re going to go through an investigation. I think it’s relegated to felonies, but not sure.
The Fed’s have lots of task forces staffed with local cops. One of the reasons, locals operate much differently. A local cop can write a search warrant on the trunk of a car, see a judge, get it signed and then go knock the door. Fed’s have to come up with an operational plan that has to get approved by senior people.
If I remember correctly, they had to send their paperwork to DC for approval.
It could take days.
And since so many senior people are involved. theren awful lot of people that can’t play dumb and could all be accountable. All it would take is one senior person who is responsible for evidence preservation, everyone below them, suspended. Everyone above them suspended for lack of oversight.
Cops could get something like that done in less than an hour. To streamline it even more, cops could have a team ready to make entry, while someone else deals with the warrant.
Do you mean “OOPS!” won’t do?
