No doubt about it - They have been running grift since the dawn of time. Ran into that bunch when I sold a sailboat on ebay. They "won" my auction and then tried to sucker me in wiring money to them in England if they sent a "cashier's check" for an amount $500 greater that the sale price. I contacted the London police and they told me that Roma families were pulling that scam all over the world. They actually sent me the bogus check and I turned it in to our police here. They kept trying but I ignored them and eventually sold the boat to real people here.
When I was in Moscow with a team, one of our civilians was looking for tourist stuff to bring home at the Arbat and he was jumped by eight or more Roma kids who pinned his arms and legs while one of them removed his money belt.
I would imagine FJB will be glad to bring more of them here.
I read two good books on Gypsys and had a wonderful conversation with one who picked me up hitchhiking from (I think Los Angeles) to Houston, and I liked the movie “The Man Who Laughs” (1928 film) where I learned about the old Gypsy practice of the Comprachicos, “to physically cripple and deform children to work as beggars or living curiosities. The most common methods said to be used in this practice included stunting children’s growth by physical restraint, muzzling their faces to deform them, slitting their eyes, dislocating their joints, and causing their bones to malform.”
A practice which still takes place around the world, in Europe, China, Pakistan, etc.
“Organised begging and mutilation of children by Romanian gypsies”
“A band of Romanian gypsies has mutilated at least 168 children between the ages of 7 and 15 to use them for organised begging in Western Europe and thus boost their income. Some have even mutilated their own children in order to evoke sympathy. On 8 April the Romanian police, in cooperation with British officials, carried out house searches at more than 30 addresses in the Romanian town of Tandarei. The British police had instigated this investigation after they had identified 168 children in London. According to the Romanian website Jurnalul, 27 people have been charged.”
