Violent Clashes Engulf Southern Russia as Putin 'Distracted' by Ukraine
Newsweek ^ | 6/24/2024 | Brendan Cole

Attacks in Russia's Muslim majority republic of Dagestan are the latest strikes in the country linked to Islamic State. One security analyst told Newsweek that the Kremlin's focus on Ukraine rather than the threat of terrorism means more such incidents are guaranteed.

Russia's authorities announced a counterterrorism operation after men opened fire on Russian Orthodox churches and a synagogue in the coastal city of Derbent at around 6 p.m. Sunday. Within the same hour, another group opened fire on a traffic police post in the republic's capital of Makhachkala, about 80 miles north.

"Putin's quickly losing control of the country," posted pro-Ukrainian X user War is Translated, who writes about the Russian president's invasion, next to video of the aftermath of the attacks. Newsweek has contacted Russia's Investigative Committee for comment.

Dagestani governor Sergei Melikov said more than 15 police officers, several civilians and an Orthodox priest had been killed, although six "bandits" had been "liquidated."

The Russian branch of IS-K's (Islamic State Khorasan Province) Al-Azaim Media praised the attack, which it said was carried out by "their brothers from the Caucasus" without claiming responsibility.

It is possible, but there is no way to know for sure, that this has been an effect of the diversion of security units and garrisons from those unsettled parts of Russia like Dagestan.

The loss of these resources, presumably redirected to Ukraine, may have made it more difficult to keep the lid on.

Fewer watchers let plots flourish?

No conclusions from me, these are just data points.

Still doesn’t make this post false or irrelevant

There are multiple sources talking about this event, and the Russians have admitted to it.

You don’t like it, I get it. So therefore it is spam

Don’t like it don’t read it

This is true, thats why an effective security system is needed to keep them suppressed. On its own this even is “normal”, given the long, long history of these things.

I’m thinking of the Beslan case, 2004, and the Dubrovka theater siege, 2002, but there have been many, many more.

The US has been extremely lucky to have largely escaped this problem - except for the WTC of course.

Still doesn’t make the story false, there are other sources that confirm.

Calling it spam add nothing. Russia has a problem, not unique, and apparently buddying up with Syria and Iran didn’t help

There will be much more of this to come. Russian federation is largely held together by force, corruption, and intimidation. That can only be accomplished by having a strong hand in these regions and Putin has been pulling forces from these regions to feed his front

Calling it spam will not make it go away

They are being manipulated by the same kind of people that give us the “Patriot Front” and the “Proud Boys” and so on in this country.

In other words the law enforcement-intelligence apparatus of the United States.

Overseas the CIA-MI 6 folks did Libya and Syria where they got “Assad’s muslim subjects’ to do what you speak of in regards to Putin.

The old 2011 MO of the US-UK created Syrian Civil War.

Or, as is much more usual in history, people do things just because. There are patterns of behavior typical of given societies, and Muslims are much given to the “mad mullah” phenomenon. It goes way, way back, and there was no Arab bureau, MI5 or CIA then.

The track record of western intelligence agencies is not that they initiate whatever. They see some new thing and try to “help”.

This may have all started with “good intentions” the Palestinian terrorism that Israel confronted with informants and undercover operatives real enough.

But once our security agencies adapted those tactics to deal with foreign-domestic “terrorism” the definition the labelling of ‘extremist’ got out of hand.

And so we came to the operations of security agencies on or around January 6, 2021.

Putin is a more godly man than Biden, without question.

That’s a pretty low bar.

Nonsense, Russia made strategic and military errors and lost most of their empire but they didn’t change.

Losing their empire was imposed on them, they made missteps, tried to loosen their grip a little to deal with it and the people exploded in escaping from them so rapidly that Russia couldn’t stop it, it got out of their control, it wasn’t that they suddenly saw the light and turned against its own self.

Russia is Russia, this is what they do.

It is my great fear is that this is being supported by the US. Fits nicely with our "Colored Revolution" strategy for regime change. Fits nicely with this administration's agenda.
