Somehow, in the bad old days, women and minorities became successful pilots starting just after the Wright brothers and Glenn Curtiss invented the airplane. Yet we are told that traditional terms like cockpit, joystick, airmen, and manpower now deter them from aviation. I am not sure though that I would want my life to depend on such timid souls. Instead of trying to recruit weak pilots, we may do better with automation in their place — and in place of ALPA.
