Cashier Doesn't [know how to] Count Money at WalMart

DEI hire at “work”…
I had to straighten out a POC today to the tune of a proper return of a $10 dollar bill for a simple transaction.
SHAMEFUL
I enjoy using ca$h, so will have to lay in a supply of all sorts of denominations so I can always just supply exact change until our overloards implement a total digital money world.
Decades ago when I went to McDonalds and paid cash, the clerk inputed the amount provided and waited for the cash register to advise the change amount. They were alway amazed that I could do that in my head faster than the machine. And I thought the education system was bad back then……
Lots of white high school kids, too. At our white grocery store, I asked the white female high school kid for 4 ounces of roast beef. She replied “Sir we only sell it by the pound.” I asked her “OK, what fraction of a pound is 4 ounces?”
Dumfounded silence. I said “There are 16 ounces in a pound. I want four ounces. What fraction of a pound is that?”
Dumfounded silence again. I asked “What is the fraction of 4 ounces divided by 16 ounces?”
Dumbounded silence. I said “The answer is 0.25. In other words I want a quarter pound of roast beef.”
Dumb as a box of rocks.
Pathetic.
*Sir, you gave me too much.
Tender it into your machine, it is magic. You will give me a ten and two quarters back.
*How did you know that?
I did school.
Worse, if you tell them how much you are giving them so to not get a bunch of coins back and they screw that up by not counting correctly and you get 99 cents back.
Yes, it’s not just blacks who can’t count change or do elementary arithmetic. They simply have never been taught these things. They can’t tell time using a regular old clock either. Just this morning I saw where a prominent social media posted a foto in which the giant decorative clock face on her dining room wall was hung upside-down. In her defense it featured Roman numerals . . .
When ever I have a number of coins or bills I always assist by counting out stacks. Makes everyone feel better about the count.
Common courtesy.
Young people haven’t been able to count back change for a long time.
Twenty years ago we were checking out at a fast food place when the power went out. The clerk’s drawer was open, and he counted out change without missing a beat. Zip zip zip.
I asked, “Home schooled?”
“Yes.”
Another reason TPTB want to do away with cash.
Theres a guy on Youtube that goes around to colleges and asks simple questions.
One of my favorites is “How many minutes are in a quarter of an hour?”
They will either stand there stunned briefly before answering something similar to “Im not really a math major” and then running away or they will inevitably state “25 minutes”.
One time my order at a restaurant came to $17.76, and I remarked, “well, that was a memorable year.” The (white) girl cashier said, “oh yeah, what happened? Did someone win a Super Bowl or something?” I’m sure I rolled my eyes.
I tried to give her some hints. She got zero of them. Then we asked every other person working at the restaurant that we encountered. Only one young man, about 30 minutes later answered correctly.
This was in the late 90’s. I’m sure it’s gone even more downhill since then.
What does this Ken expect to accomplish at a Walmart? He’s being a complete douche. They both are.
After school, I clerked at Famous Barr (now Macy’s) near St. Louis back in ‘67 and ‘68. We were taught how to hand change back by counting up from the purchase price. No cash register in those days told you what the change was supposed to be. It only rang up the sale price. If you couldn’t master counting back change, you didn’t last long.
Wow. That’s right up there with “Who’s buried in Grant’s Tomb?”
Wow. Incredible.
There are so many videos on YouTube now showing how brain-dead stupid college kids are.
“He’s being a complete douche. They both are.”
That was my take, too. What a jerk. And to write that long diatribe on YouTube...what’s the point.
Maybe he should go tutor kids in basic math and money counting instead of being a jerk on YouTube.
