BASEBALL MEMOS

Posted on 06/20/2024 10:39:50 AM PDT by Hebrews 11:6

BASEBALL MEMOS

In the early years of baseball, fielders wore no gloves
Manly men were toughened, their callosities well-loved
But soon enough reason prevailed and leather became the norm
And the Last Real Man found a mitt and feared not to conform.

There must have been a Memo
Saying “Men, we’ll still be Men;
But bruised and broken fingers
Cannot swing an autograph pen”

Yet what they did with their new gloves boggles the mind today
As the innings ended they dropped them on the grass and let them lay
You can see them in old films—for fifty years they tempted fate
We cannot imagine what they thought, nor why reason came so late.
The Commissioner wrote a Memo
Saying “Men, we must be smart
Take them with you to the dugout
Act safely, take it to heart”

Ten years ago a new fad emerged that illustrates a truth
It’s always been true, from Mookie to Willie, back to Ruth
After the last out as they jog in they playfully toss the ball
They’re just having fun, which is the point—it's a game, after all.
Someone wrote a Memo
Saying “Boys, remember to have fun
Let’s toss the ball and catch it
As into the cool dugout we run”

Roy Hobbs found a girlfriend
Whose plan was to wreck his ball
She’s the one who slipped him poison
Which sent him to the hospital.
Someone named her “Memo”
Pop the manager’s niece
There was nothing Natural about her
But Roy finally found his peace

A couple of days ago Willie Mays died.

Which is why I made sure to include him.

No baseball poem would be complete without stanzas about steroids, cardboard fans, and the Pitch Clock.

this is from chatgpt, my go-to haiku generator:

Cardboard fans cheer loud,
Echoes of cheers, cardboard eyes,
Empty stands disguised.

Steroids taint the pitch,
Power surges, shadows cast,
Game’s purity lost.

Clock ticks, relentless,
Time pressures, rhythm controlled,
Baseball’s pace evolves.

Suit yourself, but I certainly disagree with your premise.

I like a couple rules from Banana-ball. MLB should include some of those—like the Ball 4 sprint, and batter is out if a fan catches the foul.

True. Baseball players played without gloves back in the day.
And hockey players played without helmets or mouth guards.

Different times....

Goalies were without face-masks. Astonishing bravado.

Minor league ball has always been idiosyncratic.

Oh, good thing your poem is not about the YMCA!

God really does have His mitts into everything though...

It's like a memo saying that '24 Will Amaze.

Willie Mays died in '24 at the age of 93, which isn't just the "Big Dig" Central Artery Highway, 93 = "the Megillah". Known also as the revelation of the hidden.

And then what of nicknames?

"Say Hey Kid"

Now there's Joseph, who told the folks in Egypt,

"Hei" is seed for you!

Speaking of which, a nick for the Temple is the House of God (Hashem), written like this:

'בית ה

The House of... Hey!

(Abbott and Costello would understand completely.)

It's serious business! Take the very word "baseball". Hebrew converts the word into Hebrew:

בייסבול

"baseball".

Like with the word/name Bell, or Ball..

The first letter is a bet ("house"), and the last letter is a lamed ("learn/teach")... the same as the Torah, and all the Tanakh.

Coincidence? I think not. Because you just know how it all rolled in the garden... Adam and Eve tried to become Dodgers, when they should have been Angels.

They really should have known better. after all, the Singing Cowboy himself -- number 26 -- owned the Angels. Who doesn't already know that?!

And of course what would baseball be without home plate? No one scores without making the complete loop.

Which brings me right back to the beginning:

In the big inning, God created the heavens and the earth.

https://mindyourdecisions.com/blog/2017/10/12/baseballs-home-plate-is-impossible-mathematically/

Naturally impossible, because "x" should be ~ 12.02

Kind of like the first three words of the Torah:

"In the big inning, God created" [בּראשׁית בּרא אלהים] = 1202

So in this field of dreams, home plate math is like those camels...

Mark 10:27

And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.

Well you did say, "Play ball!" ⚾ 🤗

Thought you might have fun with this. I had fun writing it.

It’s not “Casey at the Bat”, but then nothing can ever even approach its magnificence.

You forgot Home Run Derby and the 10 man lineup (designate hitter.)

It’s not “Casey at the Bat”, but then...

...the hits just keep coming. It's a very punny day.

How about Moses, who was in that special waterproof Case that the daughter (Bat) of Pharaoh pulled from the water?

Because if you go over to the language of the place named for being the source of the Sun (those Egyptians were really into the Sun, weren't they)... "water" is "mizu" 水

🤔

And the Bat of Pharaoh named Moses "Moses" (or Moshe as it were) because she drew him out of the... mizu.

If we only had that to go on, it would have been enough, but "mizu" is also:

針孔

"eye of a needle"

It's sure hot, 93 right now!

Good time for a dunk, especially because the Torah of Moses is likened to water, which is mizu.

But hey, can you believe it? Folks are deep in De Nile!

"Ra Enthroned in the Tomb of Roy":

Roy? Roy G. Biv? Rookie of the Year?

In any Case, looks like Ra went all out in the design of his baseball cap.

“and the Pitch Clock”. I think that is the most ridiculous rule ever made up in the game of baseball. There is no clock or time in baseball, if the game runs too long turn off the television or get up, leave the ballpark and drive home.
