WNBA rookie sensation Caitlin Clark last week denounced the use of her name to inflame culture wars, calling those efforts by pundits and politicians “disappointing” and “unacceptable.”
But after Clark was flagrantly fouled by her college rival Angel Reese on Sunday, Fox News and right-wing media blatantly ignored the Indiana Fever star’s pleas and continued to fuel the outrage flames surrounding the 22-year-old guard.
“This is the Jackie Robinson of the WNBA,” Fox News contributor David Webb exclaimed on Sunday night. “She is getting abused!”
Webb’s comparison of Clark to the man who broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier in the 1940s briefly left his Big Weekend Show co-host Tom Shillue a bit tongue-tied, though Shillue did eventually agree that Clark has become a “target” for the WNBA’s other players.

And no one has her back. Not her teammates, not the coaches, not the owners, not the refs, not the sponsors. It’s almost like they want the sizable black-on-white assaults in order to attract viewers.

I had that same thought the other day. Somebody was going to say it sooner or later. It’s not as big a thing for society as a whole, but for the tiny world of the WNBA it probably is a big deal.

The WNBA needs to be boycotted to death. Nobody needs their junkball anyway.

Less to do with race and more to do with jealousy and the fact that Reece is a sloppy player with limited skill sets. She had five personal fouls in the game. The headshot to Clark was flagrant, but not necessarily intentional. Follow her eyes and she’s watching the ball all the way.
As for the racial aspect, Indiana probably has the whitest team in the WNBA. Of the five starters yesterday two are white, and of the eight players who saw play-time, four are white. Two of the four white players were not fouled at all, one was fouled once, and Clark was fouled six times. The four black players were fouled a total of seven times.
Clark was obviously targeted, but less for race and more out of jealously of her stardom and endorsement contracts, which Reese will never get because no mainstream corporate sponsor wants a thug with a low commend of the English language as a spokesperson.
