THERE IS A political parable that begins with two cows. Communists would give both to the government; capitalists would sell one and buy a bull. Were it to be set in America today, Republicans would worry that their cows could be rendered obsolete. On May 1st Ron DeSantis, Florida’s governor, banned the sale of lab-grown meat in his state, an attempt, he said, to “save our steaks”. Alabama has passed a similar law; Arizona and Tennessee are considering doing the same. Some 13 other red states prohibit firms from labelling their lab-grown meat with terms that traditionally refer to real animal products. Why are Republicans so worried about “fake” meat?

What would they say about fake(bio-med) tofu?
Well, if it’s ‘fda’ approved it must be safe and effective right? Its like turkey bacon. Firm NO!
Do conservatives just go around banning everything? Especially if the market is deciding?
Lab grown meat is a tumor…tumor cells grow fast and thats what the lab wants
Kentucky fried tumor
Flame-broiled tumor
Tumor Whoppers
If the Left retains power, American cuisine will become a puke fest.
These are the same people that pitch a fit about GMO’s, but would eat lab grown meat. As for me, nope, not a chance. They can have all that crap they want
Does “lab grown meat” actually grow? Or is it just a whole lot of chemicals mixed together?
Is this banning? Or is it enforcing truth in labeling?
That’s why Italy banned lab-grown meat, to protect traditional Italian cuisine.
I actually have been hoping for “lab grown” meat for many years, going back to my days in microbiology and cancer research.
I realized long ago that we may eventually replicate and grow the cells that make up lean beef at scale. My thoughts were about how it could actually make meat cheaper at some point, so that I could have more of it. I never looked at the promise of anything related to the environment. That’s just silly.
Primarily enforcing labeling.
Remember when the liberals were all enraged about extra fine burger “pink slime”?
Now they want to grow the fake version of it “meat” even though it never did any exercise.
It is a little more real than almond milk I suppose.
It grows.
You fight the civil war with your army fed on lab produced meat subsititutes. I will recruit my army by promising to feed them on Grade A beef. Let’s see who wins this one.
It is an interesting concept now that cuts I used to consider cheap are outrageously priced.
But as soon as it gets somewhat accepted the stuff will be used as an excuse to ban slaughtering animals for food.
That is the reason they are pushing it.
Foods of the future; lab grown ‘meat’, bugs, and the ever popular Soylent Green.
It’s toxic garbage, unfit for human consumption. That’s not a cultural war issue.
I’m sure there are school kids out there that believe that almonds are milked (and probably some teachers too).
FWIW, I live in a relatively blue area but I have not seen it on sale anywhere.
