Never heard of this place.

Now Pepe’s is famous. https://pepespizzeria.com/

There’s LOTS of great apizza in the greater New Haven area. Sally’s is my #1, Modern #2. I miss the Spot on Wooster (the new version is not the same thing). Angelo’s in North Haven (RIP) and Tolli’s (RIP, Tolli himself gunned down in armed hold up)(East Haven) are badly missed. I never heard of Zuppardi’s, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it is excellent.

Pepe’s will do, and it has seniority, but far from the best in my book.

So good. For South Floridians - Fantini’s in Stuart on US 1 has great New Haven pizza. Willie’s in the Shell Station in Juno Beach great NY pizza.

Portnoy loves them both.

I love Tolli’s. Wash it down with a Foxon Park White Birch Beer soda.

Everyone around New Haven knows about Zuppardis. It’s delicious. But West Haven is a side trip most New Haven visitors might otherwise avoid.

I’m a Detroit-style loyalist, but New Haven definitely has the best (a)pizza in the US.

I’m near Tolli’s, if either of you want to grab a bite sometime.

OK, I am missing something in the timeline. Tolli was shot dead in a hold-up decades ago. Shortly after, a place called Tolle’s opened in the same location, but the pizza was NOT as good. So, unless a family member with the “technique” revived the place, it might be good, but not what it was.

I did a little research, and although the fatal holdup is scrubbed, I had not realized that a different Tolli had founded Modern Apizza. So despite the now fru-fru menu, I would be happy to give Tolli's another go. I was gratified that in the photo gallery, the bacon apizza had a prominent spot, and that the bacon is not over-cooked. I will let you know next time I am in Connecticut. Good apizza is always worth a 30 minute drive, and the lines won't be like Sally's.

Modern’s pizza is great. I may have had slow service the last time I was there. Been to Tolli’s in East Haven a few times, pizza was good the one time I had it.
