Nonprofits tied to eugenics movement fund clinical trials to expand abortion pill access

Gynuity Health Projects, a research organization conducting clinical trials aimed at expanding access to the abortion pill and overturning the Food and Drug Administration’s safety requirements, is funded by organizations with deep historic ties to the American eugenics movement.

Gynuity’s donor list includes organizations like the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Planned Parenthood, the Population Council, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the Society for Family Planning, the Rockefeller Foundation, the Tara Health Foundation, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation.

In 1996, the Packard Foundation seeded the pill’s manufacturer, Danco Laboratories, Inc., with $14.2 million during the early stages of the FDA approval process for the abortion pill, then known as “RU-486.” Packard is now investing millions in GenBioPro, Inc., a company the FDA approved in 2019 to manufacture a generic version of the abortion pill. Gynuity also receives grants from the Buffett Foundation—another Danco funder which gave at least $2 million in interest-free loans to the Population Council to conduct clinical trials in the 1990s for the abortion pill’s FDA approval. The Population Council is ultimately responsible for bringing the abortion pill into the U.S. for FDA approval, and for establishing Danco as its commercial arm to manufacture and distribute the lethal drug to U.S. consumers.

In 1952, John D. Rockefeller III founded the Population Council and served as its first president. The Population Council was incorporated following Rockefeller’s Conference on Population Problems, and its sole focus since that time has been to promote “family planning” in various countries and to develop hormonal contraception.

Gynuity’s Founder

Live Action News recently reported that Gynuity’s President and founder, Beverly Winikoff, M.D., once credited the September 11 attacks with “saving” the abortion pill by dominating the news cycle shortly after the first abortion pill death in Canada was publicized.

Winikoff has been involved with abortion pill research and advocacy for decades. She previously served as Assistant Director for Health Sciences at the Rockefeller Foundation which, according to author Edwin Black, “helped found the German eugenics program and even funded the program that Josef Mengele worked in before he went to Auschwitz.”

Winikoff once worked for the Population Council as well, serving as Director of the Council’s Reproductive Health Program, during the time the Population Council was conducting clinical trials for the abortion pill.

Winikoff is also on the board of Population Services International, co-founded by Philip Harvey of DKT International, which sells abortion pills worldwide. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is one of DKT International’s major funders and Bill Gates’ father once served as a board member of Planned Parenthood.

Between 2008 and 2014, Winikoff served on the board of the Society of Family Planning, which was founded in 2005 with a “generous contribution” from the Packard Foundation. In 2016, the Buffett Foundation gave the Society of Family Planning over $8 million. Image: Bevery Winikoff testifies for Population Council on RU486 abortion pill 1991 (Image: CSpan)

Winikoff once called the abortion pill a “world shaking” technological advancement. “I feel like people must have felt when they discovered the nuclear bomb,” she said. The dark irony of comparing the abortion pill to the most lethal weapon of war ever invented seems to be lost on Winikoff.

But perhaps this perverse mentality is not so surprising when one considers that expanding access to abortion is driven by the goals of eugenics and social engineering.

Don’t see a lot of diversity, equity, inclusivity in the ownership or administration of these non profits. That alone should give non-white America pause. But no...liberals being liberals love to support their demise.
