Alexander Morris, 53, filed a lawsuit Monday against Ascension Macomb–Oakland Hospital in Warren, Michigan, alleging racial discrimination and other misconduct during an April 2023 visit for chest pain and breathing problems.
Hospital staff “wrongfully assumed he was mentally ill when he revealed his identity as a celebrity figure,” the lawsuit says.
The Four Tops started in the 1950s and had hits such as “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)″ and “It’s The Same Old Song.” The group was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.
The lawsuit says a nurse finally believed Morris was in the Four Tops and the psychological exam was canceled.
The hospital offered a $25 gift card as an apology, but Morris refused to accept it, the lawsuit says.

“Alexander Morris, 53...The Four Tops started in the 1950s”
I’m guessing Mr. Morris wasn’t one of the original “Four Tops”.

I grew up in/around Motown in the 60s and 70s.
If some 50-ish fella told me he was one of the Four Tops, I’d call him crazy, too.

Correct. The lead singer of the Four Tops in the late 1960’s was Levi Staub.

The hospital offered a $25 gift card as an apology What can you get at a hospital for $25?

I saw them last year. There was one original member who sang with them. He was pretty much wheeled out and sang a couple of songs. But, he did great.
They, and the Temptations, put on a good show. Those songs (peak Motown) are just wonderful.

What can you get at a hospital for $25? A twenty five cent wood tongue depressor. Oh, they'll charge you the full $25 however.

I’m guessing Mr. Morris wasn’t one of the original “Four Tops”. The article says he joined in 2019. What he should have said is that he's a singer in a Four Tops cover band.

In 1968, the college I was attending hosted a Four Tops concert. The Tops were an hour and a half late, and quit during the intermission. There was a burning of Tops albums. I hid mine. I paid for them, and burning them did nothing to the Tops.
The Temptations often did not even show up for scheduled concerts.

The “cover band” part is sketch...
The Barry Gordie family owns the trademark of “Four Tops”.
