"Inside-Looking Out", often written "Inside Looking Out",is a 1966 single by The Animals. It was a substantial hit in their native land, reaching number 12 on the UK Singles Chart, number 21 in Canada, but was at best a minor hit in the United States, reaching number 34 on the U.S. pop singles chart. The song is very loosely based on a work chant entitled "Rosie" collected by musicologist Alan Lomax and released in his album Popular Songbook.
In 1969 it was covered by Grand Funk Railroad, who on their album Grand Funk added some marijuana references to the lyrics such as changing the original's "rebirth" to "reefer." A reworking of portions of the song was also recorded by the Austrian band Novak's Kapelle in 1969 as "Hypodermic Needle". It was later covered by doom metal band The Obsessed, released on their 1999 compilation album, Incarnate and again by The Greenhornes on their 2001 self-titled second album. In 2001, Eric Burdon released a live cover on Official Live Bootleg 2000.
Love your FR handle!
I understand regarding Mark Farner but it seems that he wanted a larger share of the finances than Mel and Don.
By the way “American Band” was written and sung by Don.
People forget just how huge these guys were.
Peter Grant basically forced GFR to stop touring with Zep, because they were blowing them off the stage.
Great Michigan bands!
Their agent ripped them off. A very common story from that era.
Farner has been a devout Christian for a long time.
Without Mark, it’s a tribute band.
We simply had it great with the 60’s and 70’s rock bands, nothing like it before or after.
Don and Mel are great musicians, but you're right - Mark was the heart and soul of Grand Funk Railroad.
Bad Time is my favorite song of theirs.
It’s like after singing “I’m getting closer to my home”, ad nauseum, I’m like “Would you just get home, already!!”
Reminds me years ago at work at a truck line. Phil Collins song repeating I Just Don’t Care Anymore.
One older man (and he was usually not a talkative type) said “I guess he just don’t give a F.
We all broke down in laughter.
