WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) — When two friends took a walk on the Kent Trails in Wyoming, Michigan, Sunday with their children, they never expected it to lead to a police report and a viral video.
The men, who asked their names not be shared due to the attention the confrontation is receiving online, say a cyclist they encountered on the trails hit one of them in the face, cursed at them and told them to put one of their children on a leash.
One of the men had his 3-year-old son and 4-month-old daughter with him on the walk. His friend, who was visiting from Detroit, was with his 2-year-old. They were both pushing strollers, with the toddlers climbing in and out at various times.
The father of the 3-year-old said they were on their way back home after stopping at a park, and the kids had “reached their limit.”
“We had made sure to stop for other people who were on bikes. We have been pretty aware of that. We had to pull over to the side, grab our kids, hold their hands just to make sure they go by. We had actually just done that for a couple of other cyclists when this man approached us,” the friend who recorded the video said.
That man rode up as the 3-year-old sat down in the middle of the trail, according to the two friends.
“At that point, you know, my mind is like, OK, just stay put. Because, you know, if I run out in front of the cyclist, that’s a danger. If the kid runs out, that’s a danger, because where’s the cyclist going to go?” the 3-year-old’s father said.
The friends say the cyclist began cursing at the 3-year-old, telling him to get out of the way.

“a Tesla clipped him and he was last seen flying through the air...”
How badly was the Telsa damaged?
“I’m torn on this. Clearly it’s wrong to yell at a 3 year old but there ARE kids who need to be on a leash. Some parents think kids are like dogs...they should be able to go where they want when they want. There are some dog owners who do not comply with leash laws because THEIR dog isn’t the problem. It’s those other dogs.”
I’ve been out places these days and seen dogs better behaved than children! Most people these days have well behaved dogs in public. There is a store near me that allows dogs and on any given weekend the place is a Hillbilly Westminster Dog Show with every pet owner bringing their dog in and showing them off. The dogs are loving it and getting spoiled with attention and treats.
then I go up to wal mart and kids are screaming like opera singers because mom told them “no”.
“Bikers are uptight because it can be a very dangerous sport.”
Hmm, Rooster seems a bit uptight. Calm down and take up knitting. Very safe you know.
I'm 75 y/o BTW. Been biking for 35 years.
I think I'll stick with biking.
I don't know, with knitting an occasional needle up the nose is the worst that will happen.
By the way, I have done more 100 mile rides than I can count but I do remember the 120 mile ride of the south circle in Yellowstone Park. Very calming except for a few brutal climbs over the Continental Divide. Fortunately I haven’t had a rib stuck in my lung yet.
Typical of the alphabet mafia.
That's right discostu, when I'm on the trail I look for families with little kids. I intentionally speed up hoping one of those little brats come too close or blocks my way. I pretend I don't see them and just slam into them. Then, as always, I start screaming at little ones and then threaten the parents.
My youngest niece was very fast so I used a harness and leash on her to keep her from darting out into traffic or other dangers. I got several long and loud lectures for doing so.
As dear ol Aesop said, you try to please everybody you end up pleasing nobody.
Its not so much the yelling like a mental patient, its the fact that he hit dad hard enough for dads head to hurt the kid he was holding.
If Im on the jury: “yelling” dad is just a whine bag crying about a bully, “hitting”(resulting in injury to child) on the other hand is dads “acquittal of all charges, self defense”.
I can see that everyone here is doing a superb job of venting their hostilities. Har har
But you're a freeper, so you're already an exception to the rule.

"Vehicle speeds - Higher vehicle speeds increase the risk of crash involvement and the risk of injury or death when a crash occurs. Because pedestrians and bicyclists don't have a vehicle's structure to protect them, small increases in vehicle speeds have an especially large impact on the risk of a serious injury or fatality."
Yes sir!
Try driving the Natchez Trace Parkway in TN. You go around a corner and all of a sudden you run into dozens of bikers using both sides of the road.
They flip you off if you honk. Not even biking in a straight line. They think they own the road.
A sport of the Type As, for sure.
“Slowing down isn’t a universal answer. Define slow.”
If you don’t have an innate sense of what’s a slow enough or safe enough speed around pedestrians, especially 3-year old toddlers occupying the same pathway as your bicycle...I can’t help you.
Totaled.
Good for you. It’s great exercise.
