A Ukrainian warplane has for the first time fired a weapon that struck a target inside Russia, a Ukrainian military source has told Sky News.
The source said a "Russian command node" was hit on Sunday in the area of Belgorod, western Russia.
Belgorod is close to the border with northeastern Ukraine.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the military source told Sky News: "A Ukrainian Air Force (UAF) mission has struck a Russian command node in Belgorod.
"Whilst damage assessment is still occurring, it is confirmed as a direct hit. This is the first UAF air-delivered munition delivered against a target within Russia."
Ukraine has launched multiple drone strikes deep into Russian territory. But the use of a warplane to strike targets inside Russia could be seen by Moscow as a new escalation.

That is apparently what they are continuing to count on.
FAKE NEWS.
You know they’ve been firing in that annexed area of the Ukraine (Belgorod) for months now. All that is new is that the type of live fire has changed - they’ve previously used rockets and missiles. This is not Putin’s ‘red-line’ as it has been going on for some time. He has said he accepts that in war there are inevitably casualties. This is not escalation - it’s more of the same.
There is a need to falsely portray this as stepping up the war after receiving more billions from the United States. It’s just more fraud and pointless killing. The Ukraine has lost and is throwing the last bodies on fire, more Ukrainians than Russians.
it will stop when Russia crushes the Nazi’s once again. IF our illustrious CONgresscritters weren’t so neck deep in kickbacks these United States of America would have let these two despicable nations decimate each other first then come clean up the mess after but NOOOOO! WE had to take the side of the Nazi’s against the communists. no matter what the zeepercreepers say or post...the truth is what the truth is.
Putin said recently in an interview our MSM is distorting as a threat, that he wants to avoid nuclear war, and the current events do not meet the threshold for such weapons. He’s content that the war is going well and doesn’t expect to use nukes.
This was broadcast in the US as ‘oh oh...Putin just said he will use nukes...”
In reality, he reminded the West that he WOULD use them if they cross the line. He has gotten the reputation for bluffing so he pointed out he doesn’t WANT nuclear war, and there hasn’t been a reason to use nukes thus far. He affirmed that nukes are not on the table right now. The war is going well for Russia, he acknowledged it is slower than some want, but feels a speedier rate would cost more Russian lives and he’s content to prosecute the war at a lesser speed.
It’s creepy how the west is lying about his meaning, fanning this into existential threat in order to justify whatever it is they are planning to do next.
Amen!
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
While we're considering that question, have you noticed that many folks denying that nuclear weapons could ever be used are the most staunch of Ukrainophiles? Or that acknowledging any risk of nuclear war tends to undermine their arguments for US intervention in Ukraine? Pure coincidence, I'm sure.
;>)
β> No one can win a war by first use of a nuclear weapon.
I think that happened once already
+1
When only one country had them. After the Soviets got one, nuclear war became uwinnable.
Look how many countries have them since. And it doesn’t matter how many you have, if you have enough to destroy the other guy. Whoever now shoots first dies as surely as those who shoot last. 30 minutes its over.
The value of having nukes is the other guy knows he will pay a horrific price.
Hence the value of reminders.
I’m not your average American. I spent three years at Cheyenne Mountain, three years at PAVE PAWS and two years in Woomera Australia, 7 years at the Pentagon and 7 years in Air Force electronic security. I have literally war gamed nuclear war a thousand times. I was also a disaster preparedness senior NCO for my entire career.
You cannot win, you cannot catch the other guy with his pants down, and weapons can be fired without National Command Authority even. There are cases in cases...
Smart leaders know it.
Nazis gonna Nazi. Russia really ought to drop a couple of big boomers on Ukraine instead of playing a kinder, gentler war.
Not all leaders are "smart" - some may be radicals, or even insane. And accidents have almost happened, which is a simple fact that average Americans do not ignore. But as you note, you are not an average American.
True. But those that actually operate them are not under the misbelief that these weapons mean anything but death if used, for them and theirs as well as the enemy.
Having them is to not use them.
I’ve only ever worried about a madman using them. Putin isn’t a mad man, and Biden really can’t order their use either. His handlers are smarter than him.
Someday? Maybe.
Who are the Communists in this scenario?
