That's quite the tan. Pete's school was not integrated, but many of his opponents were.

LSU was integrated (starting in 1950) but there was no varsity black basketball player until 1971.

Collis Temple Jr. of Kentwood became LSU's first African-American varsity athlete during Press' final season of 1971–1972. The 1971–1972 season was also the Tigers' first playing in the LSU Assembly Center.

When he joined the team in 1971, the Louisiana National Guard was called to protect him from angry segregationists.
