Ukrainian forces have damaged an advanced Russian Su-57 jet hundreds of miles away from the front lines inside Moscow's internationally recognized territory, Kyiv's military spy agency said on Sunday, adding this is the "first such case in history."
An Su-57 jet was struck on Saturday at the Akhtubinsk airfield, in the southern Russian republic of Astrakhan, Kyiv's GUR military intelligence agency said in a statement. The site is around 365 miles from the current front lines in eastern Ukraine, according to the GUR.
One of Russia's influential military bloggers—often considered sources for information on losses in lieu of official commentary from Moscow—said on Sunday that a Ukrainian drone had attacked the Akhtubinsk airfield on Saturday, and that the Su-57 was "damaged by shrapnel."
"It is now being determined whether it can be restored or not," the Fighterbomber Telegram channel added.
Moscow has been keen to keep its top-of-the-line, fifth-generation Su-57 stealth jets far away from Ukraine's air defense systems. Unlike other jets widely used in Ukraine, such as Russia's Su-35 aircraft, Su-57 fighters have not played a major role in the Kremlin's air presence in Ukraine.

The only source of info would be satellite imagery.
This has been tried, but the images were usually clumsily edited. There are civilian imaging satellites, but for whatever reason we seldom get anything from them.
I never understood the names from children’s books here. Does that make Ukes Harry Potter hobbits or something? Hop in back to the Shire with that kid fantasy book talk.
I see the Ukrainians also liberated Vovchansk.
The more I look at that Northern offensive, the more it looks like a diversion. The Russians are just trying to hold onto their Eastern acquisitions and the Northern diversion was intended simply to force the Ukraine to spit their forces.
ZEEPER FOLLIES PINGLIST!(((PING!)))
The propoganda machine has so lost its credibility that to save its credibility it is hedging its statements and blaming anonymous sources, on the one hand arguing why the source is credible and on the other hand providing distance in case it is wrong. Sort of like the CIA/MI6 MSCNNBC Clinonista Deepstate Faked still ongoing Russia collusion hoax which they can't quite give up on.
Don't worry, little girl, we got this one covered. Russia would never dare... Our NATO Badasses are the biggest badasses so bad that being overrun by invaders doesn't phase them a bit.
Do you have a clue what an escalation ladder looks like, what happens when you get to the top of the ladder, or how you stop the escalation? Cuz your badly needed in DC since no one else has figured this out.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Russians now whining that two Su-57s were hit, not just one.
“”””Yes, it is time for Russia to start allowing their proxies to make deep conventional strikes against NATO and Ukrainian interests around the world.””””
I can’t believe how open you Russian guys are, but hoping for foreign military terrorist attacks against us, is mind blowing.
Russia wont do the same now deep in Poland? Or Germany?
Tit for tat. Idiots we have running our government.
This is a false comparison. Russia invaded Ukraine and is striking targets, both military and civilian, all over Ukraine. Ukraine is using Western weapons to strike targets in Russia. That’s your tit for tat. Ukraine, not Germany, not Poland, not the US, is fighting Russia. It is only right that Ukraine be free to strike its targets anywhere in Russia. Russia regularly fires missiles at Kyiv and Odessa, so striking Belgorod and Moscow is only fair.
If Russia is stupid enough to attack a NATO member, it will unleash a $h!tstorm on Russia the likes of which the world has never seen. Putin knows this - he is not a fool, unlike those here on FR spreading propaganda that our support to Ukraine will start WWIII.
This is a problem Russia has with it systems like Beriev A-50 AWACS, Su-57, T-14 Armata, or BMPT Terminator. They don't have many of them, don't have enough of them to deploy them to make a difference, and can't afford to lose any them.
On top of that, their performance is overhyped and used as propaganda to make the Russian people believe the Russian military is strong and intimidate the west. Their actual combat performance is not all the great. If they have seen any combat at all, that's debatable.
The Su-57 can be compared to the Me-163 or Me-262 during WW-II. On paper, they were better. In practice, politics limited their production and performance, they cost too much to use, did not deliver results matching their performance, and the allies figured out how to counter them.
