Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark will reportedly not make the final 12-player USA women's basketball team for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, according to USA Today's Christine Brennan and The Athletic.

Here is what the expected roster will look like, which will be led by Cheryl Reeve, Minnesota Lynx head coach and president of basketball operations.

Kahleah Copper Chelsea Gray A'ja Wilson Breanna Stewart Diana Taurasi Brittney Griner Alyssa Thomas Napheesa Collier Jewell Loyd Kelsey Plum Jackie Young Sabrina Ionescu

The final Olympic roster isn't only Reeves' call. A committee that includes three women's college basketball coaches — Dawn Staley, Seimone Augustus, Delisha Milton-Jones — as well as Jennifer Rizzotti, president of the Connecticut Sun and head coach of the U.S. women's 3-on-3 Olympic team, and WNBA head of league operations Bethany Donaphin made the decision.

Well that should get her a few more endorsements. I doubt she cares a bit at this point.

Olympics is all too political. Kick out the Administrators and start over.

The admin positions in the sport are the most coveted and protected jobs in the business. They provide coaches with incredible advantages in recruiting players. The other admin positions are graced with commemorative rings when the teams win a gold medal and have other outrageous benefits during the time.

Basketball has its own powerful bureaucracy. They protect each other.

Oh really? Enlighten me please.

I can do that but I haven't had my cup of coffee yet. In the meantime, you can read this thread. It should get you up to date on CC.

It would be hilarious if the US women’s team has some losses because they lack a quality 3-pt shooter to come off the bench and provide instant offense.

Plenty of teenagers have been in the Olympics. Her age has nothing to do with it.

No intention of watching it now, if Caitlin Clark were playing, we definitely would.

Some info about the WNBA:

The WNBA has been languishing in obscurity since its inception in 1997. Historically, there has been little fan interest in women’s professional basketball, and the WNBA would not be able to survive on its own without the $15 million it receives each year from the NBA. The Spain-based sports outlet Diario AS recently observed that “the financial resources from ticket sales, merchandise, and broadcasting deals are not sufficient to sustain WNBA operations independently.” In fact, in all the years of its existence, the WNBA has never made a profit.

Multiple teams have already announced that they are moving their home games that are being played against Clark’s new team, the Indiana Fever, to larger arenas in response to the expected uptick in fan interest.

I understand the rookie angle, but viewership for women's basketball would have exploded.

The committee should send a team of all transvestites.

If not, they are racist or something.

I might care if I watched any Olympic coverage.

It’s far too gaggingly woke and new world orderly for me to stomach.

Not on the basketball teams, back on the original dream team, the put Christian Laetner on the team as a token, he was the best college player that year, he was nowhere near one of the 12 best players in America.

She’s probably not one of the top 12 female players in Americ. Being the most famous doesn’t make you one of the best.

The dyke bar will need to build an extensive patio to accommodate all the “pride” -drenched Americans.

That’s my thinking, she will be ready in 2028 and probably 1-2 Olympic teams after that. Being the most famous female player doesn’t equate to one of the best female players in America.

NBC’s job is to sell it and get ratings.

Good luck with that.

It’s not unusual for players in the WNBA or NBA to opt out of the olympics. Clark is not a big body and the OIC style of play is very physical. To get a “major draw” for the WNBA hurt in this type of competition will harm the financial investment of the league by bringing her into it and then losing time on the court from an injury in the olympics. Too much money, now and over the next few years, to lose for a rah rah situation like this.

People need to undertand that the sports part of this entertainment industry is long gone. So the league protects themselves by protecting their interest. And it isn’t much different with other professional businesses that are called sport. People don’t attend an amatuer competition that is supposed to be professional due to lack of talent. And the fans want success in their sports all the time and not mediocrity. And that level of success is determined by their talent and the selling of the club by representatives.

There is a history of lack of team success being overshadowed by the success of one or two players on the team. A perfect example for basketball was Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. He was playing for them in 1984 on but their first championship wasn’t until 1991. He never averaged less than 22.7 a year and from 1986 till 1990 never less than 32.5. But he was what they had to sell. And he didn’t play in the 1988 olympic competition saying physical demand to the NBA schedule and his committment there was too taxing. The only difference there was he did it and not the league behind the scenes. Jordan learned his lesson in 1984. He came back in 1992 to help the NBA prove a point. And even Magic came out of retirement and Bird played in pain for that one for the same reason. But For Clark, it’s the golden goose theory. The league is in too much financial trouble to gamble an asset.

You mean their only asset.

Depends on your metrics. She is tripling viewership and setting all kinds of attendance records. She also just set a league performance record for rookies. Imagine what she might be doing if she wasn’t public enemy number 1 and was not pkaying on the worst team in the League.

On the original Dream Team, several white players were on the team, Larry Bird, John Stockton, Chris Mullins, and Christian Laetner, right now, the best white players in the NBA are foreign and not eligible to be on the USA team.
